Housed in the airy basement of a greystone building opposite the New Theatre, just off Cardiff's main shopping street, this is not a restaurant that has ever had to shout its presence. Everyone in the capital who likes Italian food knows of Da Venditto's. It's smart, expensive décor and obviously-well-to-do clientele create an air of city centre chic. But the food's the thing. Expect a choice of around 20 elegant mains, half of them pasta dishes, such as the chef's special mixed seafood delight of king prawns, baby clams, squid and fresh mussels in garlic and white wine sauce on a pasta bed. The risottos are wonderful. Daily fish and seafood specials. Excellent value lunch menu.
