Tynemouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium offers visitors a dazzling undersea safari through the oceans of the world.

From its position overlooking the dramatic North Sea, the aquarium is home to everything from seahorses and puffer fish to poisonous dart frogs and tropical sharks.

As well as innovative displays, informative daily talks and feeding demonstrations, there’s an ever-changing programme of special events and exhibitions throughout the year.

The centrepiece of the aquarium is the spectacular coral reef housed within a gigantic ocean display.

The reef is home to exotic species like graceful black-tip reef sharks, angelfish, humphead wrasse and hundreds of dazzlingly beautiful fish that use the reef like a bustling undersea city.

Over 40 living displays reveal the sheer variety of life in the deep; from giant crabs and lobsters to rays and octopus.

Don’t miss Blue Reef’s resident family of Asian otters in their spacious heated indoor holt!

The purpose-built outdoor Seal Cove provides a perfect environment for our captive-bred harbour seals.

The naturally-themed 500,000-litre pool includes rocky haul out areas along with a whole host of other environmental enrichment features to ensure these curious and highly intelligent marine mammals are kept in near natural conditions.

Giant viewing panels and a ramped walkway provide visitors with an unrivalled opportunity to admire their grace and agility from both above and below the waterline.
