Built in 1904 by the Episcopalian church as a convent, Glen Orchy House was known as the 'House of Charity' until the 1920's, when it became the Rectory to St Magnus Church here in Lerwick. Sold into private ownership in 1969. Acquired by the present owners Trevor and Joan Howarth in 1991. Since then the house has been sympathetically renovated and extended in keeping with the original style, whilst providing every modern comfort for the discerning guest.

The house now offers 100% ensuite facilities comprising of:- 5 doubles, 6 singles, 7 twins, one of which is on the ground floor with facilities for the disabled, and 4 family rooms with either 3 single beds or twin beds and a bunk bed. All letting rooms in the new wing boast of underfloor central beating, air conditioning and satellite television. Fax and VCR facilities are available for use on request.

The lounge on the ground floor contains the 'Honesty Bar', where guests may enjoy drinks before or after meals, there are also board games and a selection of books for general reading with a number of them having a Shetland theme, its life and folklore.
