The Swan Inn is one of the best known public houses and restaurants in Suffolk renowned for its good beer, good food and wealth of history, situated in the beautiful village of Hoxne, on the Suffolk/Norfolk Border. Built in 1480 by the Bishop of Norwich, The Swan has a long history with both the restaurant and bars aptly reflecting Hoxne's ecclesiastical past with their ornate ceiling beams and ancient wide-planked floors. Throughout the pub and gardens there's an air of peace and rural seclusion. The 17th and 18th century outbuildings adding to the idyllic rural atmosphere of the place. Both bars and the restaurant have open fires. The 10 foot inglenook fireplace, in the main bar, is yet another impressive feature of this elegant establishment making it a great place to spend a cold winter's evening! The back bar is a little more intimate. The Swan is renowned for its excellent home cooked food. David and Jo-Ann, together with their Head Chef Jerry Copeman, ensure that the menu consists of only fresh, local and seasonal produce prepared on the premises ˆ even the bread is homemade! The menu constantly changes to take advantage of the best ingredients, so you'll never be stuck for choice. Jo-Ann is a fond believer in offering a wide selection of vegetarian dishes, so there is always a range of options for those who prefer not to eat meat. Food is served in the restaurant, either of the bars, or in the extensive gardens (weather permitting!) With its open fire, candle light and welcoming atmosphere, the restaurant is an ideal setting for a special occasion or a mid-week visit!
