A beer house since 1770, situated in the heart of the hamlet of
Middlestone, The ship Inn takes its name from the old sheeping station on
the old drovers road from upper Weardale to Teesport.
The Ship Inn has 3 unique attributes, it is 23 miles from the sea, 550 feet
above sea level and the cellar is 9 feet above the bar.
This CAMRA award-winning pub continues to maintain its tradition of quality
cask ales and quality bar meals at affordable prices with all beef pork and
lamb reared locally and cooked to perfection by landlady Jane.
Quaint inside we offer a traditional bar, lounge and snug. Although small it
feels like a proper pub, unfussy and uncomplicated but pleasantly
functional. We are proud of our inclusion in the Good Beer Guide and various
national guides.
The main bar has tremendous character lit by stained glass lighting and, in
winter, by the glow of an open fire. The pub has a lounge with sea
memorabilia and nautical artefacts; the wooden floor is constructed of oak
whilst the walls are festooned in pump clips from the real ale breweries.
The Ship Inn offers panoramic views of the Cleveland Hills and Roseberry
Topping from its roof top terraces and is a quintessential country pub
serving 6 real ales from local microbreweries to national brewers.
The Ship Inn has a function room ideal for small wedding parties,
christenings, birthdays, and hire for conferences or private family
parties. The Ship Inn at Middlestone is a great destination for a week or
weekend in the country as there is an excellent Bed & Breakfast or a
Converted Primitive Methodist Chapel offering 4* accommodation right on the
door step. If its climbing, walking, cycling, golf, shopping or just a chill
out holiday The Ship Inn is the place to relax in the evening with a good
meal and a couple of pints of cask conditioned ale.The Ship Inn continues to
maintain its high traditional standards in the face of modern pub trends. Do
try to come and visit us. We are sure you will not be disappointed.
