Samarés Manor dates back to Norman times. Its extensive gardens, created in the 1920s by Sir James Knott, have been substantially restored and replanted over the last twenty years. They provide a unique setting for its internationally renowned herb garden - the largest and most comprehensive in Britain. The Gardens are tranquil and atmospheric whilst being stimulating, interesting and fun. Recent developments include the Botanical Project, which introduces an educational approach to the ongoing development of the Gardens. This comprehensive programme includes extensive plant identification and labelling and the creation of individual gardens illustrating different design themes and the effects of seasonality, climate and environment.

Included in the admission to Samarés Manor is a talk on herbs every week day and a daily guided tour of the Rural Life Museum which contains the manor owner’s private collection of historical agricultural equipment and horse-drawn carriages. There are also guided tours of the Manor House, a plant centre specialising in unusual plants, a gift shop and a licensed restaurant/café.

Samarés Manor has its own self-catering holiday accommodation comprising three farmhouse apartments and three cottages situated in the picturesque early Victorian courtyard. The units, ranging from a small two-bedroom apartment to a spacious four bedroom cottage accommodating eight adults and three children, are all appointed to a very high standard.
