Feeling fishy? Net yourself a culinary catch at a new north London restaurant that's already making a name for itself as the 'plaice' to go for the best in British seafood. Brought to you by Alan and Olga Conway (already well-known to Islingtonites as the couple behind the former Upper Street Fish Shop) and their new partner, John Moyle, The Fish Shop is a modern, minimalist take on that old British favourite, the chippy. Floor to ceiling windows flood the two floored listed building with light. But let's get to the 'eely' good part - the food, and the house speciality of deep fried fish of the day (in batter, egg or matzo meal) and chips. Francophiles might prefer the seafood platter. Whatever you choose, the menu, consisting solely of fish and shellfish fresh from Billingsgate Market, changes daily as well as with the seasons. Avoiding the usual and unfailingly dull alternatives such as fish fingers, the children's menu is simply mini portions of the main menu.
