Restaurants in Strand
Once the centre of naval intelligence and operations in Britain - and therefore the world - Somerset House is now centre of skating, fine art-ogling, and very fine dining indeed. The Admiralty Restaurant ignores its possible views of the the merely freshwater Thames to attend to the serious pleasures of eating divine Modern British cuisine. Besides, you might not have been able to tear your eyes from the galleon-shaped chandeliers or the wall-mounted croc in the terra-cotta room. What's cooking? Deft haute cuisine. Menus change, but we've had amazing steamed halibut and sesame cabbage with salmon Gravadlax sauce to begin and the loin of venison, glazed apple, parsnip puree with juniper and bay leaf jus for mains is delicious, but you could confidently order from any corner of the menu. The house wine is kindly priced and worth the money, while the rest of the wine list is as soaring as the ceilings and just as delightful.
