Your hosts Jill & Ian Sutcliffe have created a warm, welcoming atmosphere in this tranquil & rural setting. Parts of The Riverbarn are over 600 years old & it has operated as a business for the last 100 years! The wooden tables with puzzles & games create a cosy & friendly feel throughout the day but give way to create a more sophisticated air for our dinner guests. There is so much to see & do from The Riverbarn, in an area set in some of England’s most beautiful countryside that boasts some spectacular scenery. Glorious Stourhead House & Gardens (20 minutes) & Exciting Longleat Safari Park (20 minutes). With Stonehenge & Salisbury (15 miles), Gold Hill, Shaftesbury (10 miles) & the imposing Abbey & Castle of Sherborne (30 miles) you are spoilt for choice! Other attractions include: Bath (30 miles), Devizes (25 miles), Castle Combe (38 miles) & Avebury (45 miles). The vast Fonthill Estate lies tucked away on the rolling northern flanks of the unspoilt Nadder Valley between Tisbury, one of Wiltshire’s oldest small towns, & the charming village of Hindon. Fonthill Park, with its beautiful tree-fringed lake & splendid triumphal-style gateway, ridge-top woodland & sweeping pastures, lies within easy walking distance of the Riverbarn. The daily lunchtime menu includes some outstanding ‘Soups of the Day’, the popular Fish Chowder, Warm Fig, Prosciutto & Brie Salad, Hot ‘Honey Drizzled’ Camembert, Smoked Trout Parcels, Goats Cheese & Sundried Tomato Tart & Smoked Trout Terrine. Our daily ‘Slate Board Specials’ include Pork in Cider & Crème Fraiche, Thai Green Curry, Smoked Haddock Kedgeree, Salmon & Dill Fishcakes, Butterbean & Cider Casserole, Moroccan Spiced Filo Parcels, Sea Bass with Asparagus & Pea Risotto or Beef, Stilton & Ale Pie. Try our renown, ‘Riverbarn’ Cream Tea – “The best this side of Cornwall!” said one visitor. We take great care to source all our fresh ingredients locally. The finest produce go hand in hand with excellent service.
