Dating from the mid 18th century, the house is swathed in roses, akebia and solanum, surrounded by its idyllic garden. For the energetic there is a hard tennis court and there are excellent opportunities for walking locally. The charming bedrooms are light, airy and very comfortable, with enticing views over various parts of the garden. English breakfast, with fresh local free-range eggs and including fresh fruit salad and home–made bread, jams and marmalade is normally taken in the conservatory in summer, surrounded by oleanders and plumbago and in the evening guests can relax in the drawing room in front of a roaring log fire when the evenings are cold. Dinner has to be pre-ordered and Sue, who is Cordon Bleu trained also offers tuition for small groups or on a one to one basis. The extensive garden, containing a great many rare and unusual trees and shrubs, including acers, magnolias, tulip trees, oaks, walnuts, daphnes, hellebores, hostas, ferns, cyclamen and trilliums to name but a few, offers interest throughout the year. There are over 125 different rose varieties, including big tree ramblers. Mixed borders fringe sweeping lawns leading to a small potager. In front of the house there is a miniature box garden and the upper magnolia garden leads to the 2 acre arboretum and 3 acre wild flower meadow, containing some 45 native limestone flower species. The garden has a star in the Good Gardens Guide and is also open for the National Gardens Scheme on Sundays 11th April, and 20th June 2010 from 2pm to 6pm.
