If you like dirt, mouse poo, spiders, yellow stains on the towels and other people's hairs in the bathroom, then this is the place for you! We booked the lodge for our honeymoon and it was a complete disaster, made worse by the attitude of the owners, who told us we were lying despite us sending them photographic evidence. We stayed for one night then booked into a lovely local hotel. The next day the owners told us it was ok to return to the lodge. I assumed this meant it had been cleaned, but apparently not! It just meant that their caretaker had visited and thought it was ok for it to be in that state! The lodge is quirky and interesting, but is not in the isolated location that the photos here imply. It is actually right next to a busy roundabout. It is also very cold in winter so budget a hefty amount for electricity, as it is charged at 10p per unit by the owners and the electric heaters positively eat it. The lodge owner also seems to have an issue with women as he insisted on addressing all emails to my husband, even though it was quite clearly my email address. We were unable to call him or Hoseasons on the night of our arrival because there is no signal in the lodge (we didn't expect there to be given it's location). However, the owner said we were lying about this as well and said he had never had a complaint about the lack of signal. Why on earth would he?! Lack of signal is just one of those things! We tried to resolve the problem with the owners directly, but in the end had to get Hoseasons involved, who was amazing and immediately agreed that the state of the lodge was unacceptable. I asked the owner to stop contacting me because he seemed to just want to antagonise and seemed to take pleasure in reducing me to tears, something that I'm not particularly proud of. The owners eventually offered us a free stay next year, but only after they were forced to by Hoseasons. As we had already paid for the stay this year, it was hardly free and there was no way we wanted anything more to do with the owners, so Hoseasons made them refund us. So all in all, our honeymoon was an epic fail, but at least we got our money back so that we can have another honeymoon in the future. To the owners: When you read this, I hope you realise that the additional hurt and upset that you caused could have very easily been avoided had your attitude been better. What a shame all you cared about was your money and gave no thought to the situation you left us in.
