There should be a given in the hotel industry (and maybe there is) that first and last impressions are of paramount importance and its a shame that Stoke Park scored badly on both counts. The shame is that the middle bit was really rather good ! Upon arrival a more than snooty receptionist in the modern pavilion looked us up and down in such a way that we thought we had been transported back a decade or two. Yes, thats right, we have booked a suite and yes, honestly, we can afford it. The building from the outside is the kind of ostentation ugly that judging from the ferraris and porsches in the car park doubtless goes down well in these parts. To call it out of keeping with the main beautiful building is a contender for understatement of the year. In side it the public areas are also rather hideous - Our Room however was Fabulous. Really really Fabulous in fact and absolutely enormous. The staff in the modern building appeared totally without charm (apart from the nice ladies who delivered our excellent breakfasts each morning). In keeping with Stoke Parks split personality within the main house we found the staff to be lovely, professional and accommodating. And the chef deserves a mention for the food was first class - as good as you will find I thought though my partner was not as enthusiastic as I. We did find the huge number of golfers a bit off putting but it didnt hide its golfing orientation prior to booking. We also didnt like the many locals all dressed up in sports clothing, though doing no exercise, brashly charging around shouting on their mobile phones but they did fit in with the ostentatious surroundings of the health club in the new aforementioned building. To be charged £1100 for two nights and two dinners is one thing (that we expected) but upon checking out we were once again given the eyes up and down treatment, no smile and definitely no thank you. Shame really but this last dealing will probably make sure we wouldnt return

We had a wonderful time at the civil partnership of my brother-in-law. The service was beautiful and the environment fantastic. We were very disappointed at the end of the evening to find that our digital camera had been taken and the staff were quite indifferent to its disappearance - it really spoilt what had been a fabulous day.
