My husband and I stayed at the whitehorse and griffin on the 24.12.09 for four nights. This was not only our christmas break but also our wedding aniversary. We stayed in the provider room, which was shabby and very small and what can we say about the very cramped bathroom with a very poor shower! We have have a few meals at the whitehorse as we come to whitby at least four times a year. To be fair the meals in the restaurant have been nice, but a bit overpriced. However our breaksfasts while staying over the christmas period were very small, cold and sometimes burnt. The sausages were the size of cocktails sausages, we didn't need a large breaksfast as we were going out for our lunch but that's not the point I read the review before booking this hotel and there were quite a few bad ones but ha ho we would give it a go as the meals we had there in the past were very nice as are the staff. We would not recommed this hotel to anyone wanting good value for money. You live and learn in life.

I've got to be honest we didn't stay at this hotel (but down the road! god I wish we hadn't!!) We found the White Horse and Griffin while strolling round the town and popped in to see what they had to offer (it looked so facinating!) We were shown round 3 rooms all of which were gorgeous, slightly quaint, but immaculate. So we decided to dine there (how come nowhere does food this good where we live!) The mussels and fishermans pie were to die for! The lady that should us round was so helpful, even told us about their special offer (I can't believe they need one!) Will be coming back to Whitby really soon, just to stay there and soak up the fantastic atmosphere this place has (and have another amazing meal) Can't wait!!!

When we went to check in we were asked if we wanted a complimentry upgarde (well who would say no!! We had been quoted £65 for ou room)The room we ended up in was okay (but I wouldn't have liked to have seen the £65 room!!) Clean and comfortable, but no sign of the luxury so often quoted by this hotel! The good points about this establishment, THE STAFF, very keen to please and nothing ever seems too much trouble. The couple (sorry if you aren't!!) that were working the night we dined in the restaurant were FAB. I have stayed in many hotels for business (this was pleasure - well almost!) But this pair made me and my boyfriend feel very welcome, we stayed quite late (to some people they would have been thinking we'd out stayed our welcome)but instead they made it clear that we could leave whenever WE were ready! Rooms and food ok. L and D (not sure if we can mention your names!) you are FAB.
