A party of 3, we stayed in the bunk room which was very comfortable. The facilities were OK, if a bit cramped (The shower room and toilet were new but very small). The two lads running the place were pleasant enough and persuaded us not to go to the nearby pub for our evening meal in favour of their own home cooked meal which they were preparing. That turned out to be a bad mistake as the food was awful. I had a lamb hotpot which consisted of nothing more than hot gravy with a sliced potato topping, totally unacceptable. This was followed by a sticky toffee pudding which was badly burned. The other two in my party fared just as badly, one had a vegetable hotpot which was made of woody, out of season vegetables that she could not eat. So in summary, not bad in terms of accommodation but avoid the food at all costs.

We stayed at New Ing Lodge in Shap in LAte April 2009 and really enjoyed ourselfs. The hosts where both a great laugh with a great value for money breakfast. The building is slowly getting work done on it but what the current hosts have done (Scott & Jamie) have been great great finished rooms. - They showed us the work they have been getting up to! Can well recoommend. Trev

New Ing Lodge is a great place to stay. It has just been taken over, and although there is some minor work being done in some of its ten bedrooms it was a very quiet and relaxed stay. The guy who was there was called Scott, and he was a really top host. As well as being a comfortable stay new ing has a lot more to offer. although i didnt have the time I could have hired a mountain bike and even a guide (which Scott does himself), or gone for a walk in the surrounding beautiful countryside. I most definately recommend this for a place to stay wether looking for a one night stop off on a long motorwy drive or for a lengthy stay to enjoy all the area has to offer. Scott was great and rustled up a quality breakfast and the local chippy is really good too! will definately visit again.
