Well I must say after reading all these reviews I was very doubtful about our family get together on Saturday evening. Well a year or so has passed since the last review on here and I must say to all those who may have had bad experiences there well this is no longer. The restaurant looks clean the staff are pleasant and knowledgeable of what's on offer and the food was amazing.the majority of us tried the game specials and they were all well presented and not too expensive. Was nice as now its all table service so we were waited on all night. The blue cap must be under new management hats off to you all a well and truly good night. Also one of our family members who is vegetarian did not like what was on offer so the head chef advised on a couple of fresh dishes for her to make her visit more enjoyable what a great one to one service hats off once again !!!! Well worth a visit !!!!

Visited the blue cap at lunchtime saturday, there were 3 young girls working- no sign of a manager. the young girls were very polite and helpful, despite being run off their feet. We were seated and then one of the girls took our drinks and food order (had to apologise that 3 meals which we had chosen had run out). The food was delicious and the service was great, however we assumed that the lady sat on a laptop in the pub giving orders to the young girls was a manager and should of given them a hand as it was a busy saturday afternoon. would visit again.

Went for a mid-week meal here with friends. What an awful experience-we waited over an hour for our meals to arrive! My own meal arrived ten minutes later than the others so they were half way through before I even got started! The food itself was of dubious quality, soggy batter on my fish and hardly any actual fish inside! I would recommend that you do not eat at this establishment-it is a shame because it is our local and we would love to be able to visit regularly with confidence that the food and service would be up to scratch. Sadly this was not the case and it is not the first time we have had such a bad experience - we went back yesterday hoping there would be an improvement on our last visit some 6 months ago but unfortunately it was even worse! We will not try again!

from the outside you would think it was a lovely pub until you go in. We went in from a day out shopping in chester, when entering the pub their was a young girl who just looked at us as if we were something from the bottom of her shoe..... we politely asked if we could have a table for 4 she replied "don't sit at tables that are already set as these were reserved" we eventually found a table to sit at after five attempts and each one of them was filthy dirty wax from the candles all over the tables and ring marks where the glasses were.... we sat their for 15 minutes awaiting someone to come and serve us bearing in mind the pub had only a couple of people dining, eventually we were not willing to accept this poor service and politely told them that if they treated all their diners the way they treated us they would have no customers.... I would advise people to eat somewhere else their was a lovely pub just up the road called the Hartford Hall very good food and great service.

Had a very good meal there in October and on the strength of that we booked for the Christmas Fayre dinner. Meal was super, service was excellent and the atmosphere was great. Will definitely go back.

Prawn cocktail off, onion rings off, tomatoe and pepper soup off, veg meal with butternut off soup now potatoe and leek,no trace off leeks and soup only warm. Main meals arrived after long wait, mushroom pastry very cold but side salad fairly warm.A once fine hotel. There is a 'choice' from 3 separate menus, but check at the bar first, they have a long list of what is off, and it will save many trips back to your party to change their choice

Took at least 10 minutes to be served at the bar told there would be a 45 minute wait for food, fair enough we would wait, our starters came garlic bread, we where not given any cutlery or napkins, then whilst waiting for the main meal we noticed people complaining about their meals ours arrived and was hot but again we had to ask for cutlery when it arrived we received plain knives and forks no steak knives the meal was ok at least it was hot. It took us even longer to pay as staff on the bar was nearly none existant it was then we where told they had closed the restuarant, we complained about the lack of service given We will not be visiting this establishment again
