The hotel is in a quiet area, very close to the coast path and also handy for the town. We walked to the harbour and back more than once. Good standard of rooms and the breakfasts were good and filling. The room had a modern clean shower and loo en suite. Friendly staff. We stayed a week and would happily recommend it and Ilfracombe.

In a nutshell this was a very tranquil break for my wife and myself. We were looking for a nice hotel to stay at by the North Devon Coast for our wedding aniversary but we had to take the dog as well. I had originally booked a room at the Darlington Hotel, months in advance, to be right by the sea front with a sea view. On the day that we turned up it all went wrong, the room did not have a sea view and the room which were booked into in error was substandard, you would get better value from a cheap travel lodge at a fraction of the price. In contrast although the Woodlands was not located by the sea, we were welcomed with a chearful reception, the ensuite room was spacious and lovely, with a large television and DVD player and there were wine glasses in the room with the tea and coffee making facilities - what more could a couple celebrating their anniversary want. The hotels garden was quite large and nice and ideal for taking the dog out during the night and for her morning walks (this was ok with the owner providing we cleared up, and there was a bin for this purpose). The breakfasts with healthy, although full english, eggs were poached not fried, toast was toasted not fried. We felt we had eaten well and healthily. There was plenty around the hotel to indicate they supported local businesses and environmentally friendly practices. I was recommend this hotel to anyone who justs needs to get away somewhere quiet for a restful break.
