My wife and I were staying at the Travelodge opposite and popped in for something to tide us over.I had their garlic mushrooms and we followed up with a sirloin steak each. It was excellent he best I have tasted for a very long time. Couldn`t finish my plate, most unusual dor me. Will be back again when we are in the area. It was very busy and we were told a 45 ninute waiting time but we had a table in less than 15 minutes. Thanks to the friendly staff. A.J.Russell, GALASHIELS, Scotland

We had the pleasure of visiting the Lymewood farm on the 5th October 2010, whilst staying in the hotel next door. We had a Very good meal, served by pleasant staff in nice surroundings, but the best was yet to come. It was Tuesday night , quiz night and by 8.00 the place really started to fill up, we were persuaded by the quizmaster to give it a go, as he assured us we would enjoy it, all i can say is what a truly enjoyable evening, The quiz was great fun, well presented and original, and kept us occupied for what would otherwise of been another boring night in a hotel.

Just returned from the Lymewood, not impressed. The website makes it look as if its a great place to take kids. Wrong! Only if under 5, the pictures make it look like a large play area, no mention of the divided areas. Main area is for under 5s only and the only thing for older kids to do is the 3 games consoles (1/2 the controllers don't work)& A couple of crane machines £2 a pop. Food standard pub grub, staff could learn to smile.

only positive things to say;the food,service and atmosphere was exceptionally good,the 7 day carvery is great value for money.The establishment is obviously a busy one with a high turn -over of customers which mirrors the popularity of the pub.I have always found the staff polite and amenable despite the levels of stress the guys and girls are under,we have eaten in many restaurants at home and abroad with mainly good experiences,its sad to think that several customers have had bad experiences,but a restaurant is a dynamic place,so no 2 days could be completely the same,i would certainly recommend lymewood,and am looking forward to going again.

i would love to say this place made me feel good, made me feel satisfied with a full belly and a wanton feeling to return again..... But i find i cannot say any of these. The burger i had was worse than those burgers found outside football stadiums and a lot drier, the diet coke had run out of coke and when asked for it to be changed the request was met with unusual negativety. The take out desert is half the size, certainly not fresh, and you pay £1 + for the container which incidently is free from some chinese take out places. All in all would i go back? ..... Basicaly no! There are too many better well priced places to visit that i know of and hundreds more that i don.t know of

I completly understand your point about it being busy, on this occasion it was not busy at all. I myself used to work in a very busy supermarket so understand stress in the workplace. However, an explanation of stress, for me is a load of rubbish. No matter how stressed you are in the job this should not be taken out on customers, this is the first rule of customer service. Then to add to their story and tell lies to their manager is dispicable. Thanks for your interest and reply to my review. regards

The perfect place to avoid the drink driving law? because if you stand at the far end of the bar you will never get served.The looks you get from bar staff when you try to attract their attention is enough to turn milk sour??? Would only recommend this place to an Member of Parliament??

Well i know what you mean by that the standard of food can go to pieces when it has been busy but if you think about we normally do about 1000 customers in a whole day may be more. I use to work at Lymewood Farm so i fully understand your comments. I my self can say that the staff can be very rude at times but that is due to stress or that there nervous if they are young waitresses. Lymewood Farm has actually been voted Number 1 cavery in the uk i can't complain about the carvery it is the only thing i look forward to when i come to visit my family. It has improved alot since it opened i use always complain about it. Collin and Pauline do try to make every bodies visit memorable but dealing with 1000 customers or more it can be stressful.

Well, what can I say, Oh I know do not visit this place for food, in fact for anything. We (myself, wife, our 11 week old daughter and my Aunt) arrived and it was not particularly busy. We waited for a seat and was asked where we would like to sit. We chose a table and sat down. My partner and Aunt went to order food, while I tended to the little on. When they returned I went to get my food from the carvery only to be approached by the lad whom gave us the table. He apologised but said to us abruptly that I have sat you in the wrong place, he had let us sit in the 'over 12's' area. He then said ' you will have to move', so no option was given. I replied that my partner is feeding our baby and that they would have to wait. I then got in the queue only to be stared at by the lad who had sat us down and another waitress. I went over asking if there was a problem, she then told me again that I had to move as it was only for over 12's. I did not appreciate being stared at and talked about. I told her again that they would have to wait and that I was not very happy at this situatiom. They said that the lad was new and did not know. I said this was not my problem if they trained their staff properly non of this would happen. We where then moved to the 'family area', we then asked to see a manager who was rude and ignorant and actually argued back with me. Her staff also had told her a completely different story as to what actually happened. To me, making them liars and them trying to turn me into a lier. The argument then got a little heated on the managers behalf. I stopped her in her tracks and said, 'what are you going to do about it'. We did however get a full refund. I just think this situation was absolutely discusting. We did not recieve and empathic response at all, and were basically told to move. I will not be visiting this establishment again and urge you not to. The customer service is appalling, I worked in Customer service for 9 years and bent over backwards to please the people who pay my wages. If this place wants to retain customers then it needs to put us first. Avoid Avoid Avoid Very annoyed customer

Avoid this pub the service leaves a lot to be desired. The food is nothing special and the service especially during peak times, leaves a lot to be desired. The staff treat you as if they are doing a favour by servicing you. I would suggest trying the Toby carvery further up the Lancaster Road which is friendlier, has better food and is cheap. Seriously don't bother with this establishmentits a wasted night out.

Visited Lymewood Farm for the 1st time on Friday 11th September,2009. Our friend, who we have known for 44 years,when we trained as nurses in Liverpool. She now lives in South Africa, was staying in the Travel Lodge, Haydock and said there was a very nice 'eatery' across the road from the Motel the last time she was home. She was a bit worried it may not be as good as she remembered. She need not have worried, we couldn't believe the choice of food, how well presented it was and how lovely it tasted. We decided on the carvery, too full to have one of those delicious sweets, so I took a 'doggy bag' home. Decided on the carrot cake, which 3 of us shared. It was delicious. The staff were friendly and polite. We well overstayed our welcome. We caught up on old and new news and had a lovely day. We have all just turned 60, so we benefited from the senir citizen rates. Thank you for a memorable afternoon. I have been telling everyone how good you were and will definitely be back. Best wishes, Jean Smyth x

"Lymewood Farm, a superb pub restaurant, is going from strength to strength! Located on Piele Road, Haydock within minutes of the M6 junction 23, Lymewood Farm is really easy to find. Licensees Colin and Pauline Moore have devoted great care and attention to detail in creating the impressive family attraction.... " This is the intro on the Lymewood's website My family has visited the Lymewood every Thursday evening since it opened and I have to say the service has gone to pot since Christmas 2008. The management needs to get a grip as by next Christmas I doubt if there will be more that a trickle using the restaurant When we arrived in the family section at 7.10pm, we were told there would be a 45 minute wait for a table for 6, 3 adults, 2 children age 12 and 4 and a 14 year old and children had to be out by 9pm. I asked the young lady who was allocating seating if that meant we would have to wait so long for a carvery meal, that we wouldn't have time to eat to meet the 9pm deadline... There were numerous empty tables waiting to be cleared and in fact we waited 18 minutes before being seated and were out of the premises by 8.10pm. We felt on arrival that she was inviting us to go elsewhere, what a way to greet customers. In these times of recession, one would imagine that businesses would try to attract new custom and certainly retain regular users. We were informed last week that there was a 20 minute wait for desserts, needless to say, we decided not to bother especially as the previous week, my "Titanic" dessert (a glorified banana split with faux cream), was missing it's main ingredient - the banana We are now seriously considering decamping to the Toby carvery at Lane Head, Lowton, only a couple of miles up the East lancs road or the Memphis Belle at Gemini, Warrington which is more expensive but the menu is more extensive and abslutely delicious

We are frequent visitors to Lymewood Farm Overall the food is usualy very good However at busy times things tend to go to peices concerning the quality of main meals other than the carvery. On reading the other reveiws I have to concur that occasionaly the staff can be rarther disinterested with your complaints certanly in todays society numbers of sales outway numbers of complaints so they appear to be not bothered. Certanly as everything has to be paid for up front they can choose to be like this as for today I would not have paid for the poor meal I received today and certanly the service was almost non existant, reason given for the cause was short staff however that could not account for the poor food tonight. a good pub to visit on quieter times as quality is a lot better as well as service. staff do need to brush up on their customer relation skills and become more concerned with the complaints as these are what people usualy report.

My first (and last) visit to Lymewood Farm ........ it was a 'first' date, both drinking and having a good laugh. The pub was close by so chosen for it's location as we could both have a drink without the worry of having to drive or order a taxi. Having been there for approximately an hour, we were told by the (rather abrupt) landlady that they were closing early as it was 'quiet'. I personally wouldn't class 30 people 'quiet' but we assumed there must be something good on tv!!! Still sat finishing our drinks some 10 minutes later, again the landlady approached us and asked us to drink up and leave the premises as they were 'closing early'. Maybe this lady could work on her approach in the mirror, maybe a smile or a pleasant word wouldn't go amiss!! We drank up and left at 10.15pm. We did email the Lymewood Farm to ask if 'closing early' because (they feel) it's quiet is common practice, nearly 4 weeks later we still await a reply. So overall I wouldn't recommend this pub, the staff need a lesson in smiling and being polite but there again they learn by example (the landlady not being a very good one). I feel it's a very sad situation in the current climate, that this pub treats visitors this way - just look around and see how many pubs are closing!! Surely they should be welcoming people with open arms?

All I can say is that with regard to customer service this place leaves a huge amount to be desired. My partner and I arrived with our 18 month old son and my parents at 18.00 on a Tuesday evening. We were told that we had to sit in the family section rather than on one of the many empty tables dotted around. On entering the family section there was only one remaining table which seated 6 people. We were then told in an offhand way by a waitress that we couldn't sit there as it was for 6 people. Bearing in mind that with my son there were 5 of us you would have thought that would be acceptable but no - the waitress then brought the manager who confirmed that we couldn't have the table and that our only other option was to wait for half an hour. With an 18 month old in tow I said that was unacceptable, he basically said "tough, that's the way it is". I then asked for an address to complain in writing and he told me that "you can write but no-one will take any notice". On hearing that we immediately left, drove 3 miles down the East Lancs road to the Toby Carvery at Lowton and were immediately welcomed, seated and fed within 45 minutes. I would recommend to anyone thinking of going to Lymewood farm with young children to think differently.

I was expecting great things, as Lymewood Farm had been recommended by a few friends, sadly it didn't live up to thoses expectations! When we arrived it was, I would say, busier than your average pub at 3 in the afternoon but not massively so. We found a seat and looked through the extensive menu, after choosing we ordered our food at the bar and I ordered a drink, I was served the drink with my order, 'as it was quite'. When we returned to our seat, we were asked to move 'to further down the other end of the pub' as we had sat in the family section and had no children with us. Saying that, there was only one other family sat in the section and to our left through the door frame the were two other tables who didn't have children. Anyway we obliged an moved to another table, and did as we were told 'just go to the bar and tell them you've changed your table'. About ten minutes later someone arrived with what we thought was our food, only to turn around and ask someone else if it was their order. Then when the other people said it wasn't theirs, the waitress said 'Well apparently they have changed their table' without even attempting to ask us if it was our food. Yes indeed we had changed our table, as instructed, and we informed the bar staff of the correct table, its a shame nobody had informed the waitress. Anyway the food. What can I say, bog standard pub grub, nothing special, mine looked like ready prepared cajun chicken sliced on a white soggy roll, with what looked like frozen chips. I can say though that the coleslaw was very nice as indeed was the salad. Afterwards we ordered hot chocolate which whilst looked very impressive with its whipped cream and marshmallows was incredibly difficult to drink and didn't taste of anything really. I didn't complain I rarely do, especially in places were I order food!! Its sad that I didn't get a chance to see the childrens menu as I have three children and I would have considered taking them sfter visiting their website. I wouldn't go back, I don't mind pub grub, but when you have bog standard pub grub, with bad attitudes it doesn't bode well.

we went to the lymewood because we had been before and enjoyed the food/ service. we were not dissapointed, there were five in our party, we all had starters, which arrived promptly, then we all had the carvery which was absoluteley superb, great value for money, would highly recomend this pub/restaurant to anyone wanting good food/ service at a good price . exellent atmosphere as it was valentines night.will certainly be going again.

i go to lymewood farm all the time, it is a normal down to earth pub/resurant. the staff are always friendly, great things for the kids to do. the carvary is sound, food is ok. to be honest not much choice for vegitarians but the best pudding menu ever!!!!!

If youre looking for good pub food and competent service this is not the place to go. Myself and my family visited on a saturday tea time. We weren't expecting gourmet food with ritz style waiters but what we did was what we asked for. Starters clearly ordered as mains came as starters. 2 meals never arrived and so after 10 mins of waiting we queried the matter... a "waiter" came to us and told us it wasnt on our bill and its our fault for not checking. He then said he would sort it out... 10 minutes later again the 2 meals have not arrived. We approach the bar and are told by the manager that our outstanding meals are ready but they wont be brought to us until we pay! We we offered no appology and told the mistake was partly our own. There was also no suggestion of compensation until we confronted the situation. We received the 2 meals 20 odd minuted after the others. We then had to ask 3 times for our tables to be cleared of empty plates. I havent mentioned the food... Out of 8 meals, 6 were not correct, or very poor. A jacket potato with tuna had previously had cheese on, fried eggs like rubber, mushy peas instead of garden peas, gristly steaks... It was by far the worst place ive had the opportunity to eat in. I accept mistakes do happen, and that isnt my problem, the problem was the way it was dealt with, even the manager was aggressive when we complained. I would recommend people to steer clear of this place. Theres plenty of pubs especially in Newton with decent food for reasonable prices.
