We will let you into a little secret, the secret is Brookhouse, in Clapham Yorkshire, a guest house and cafe. We have visited Brookhouse, several times now. It is a base from which to walk the fells, visit the area and just unwind. The accommodation is great, and even greater now the owner, has gone en suite (2009). Brookhouse is maintained daily by a team of dedicated local staff. The food is superb, and always very well presented by the chef Alan Whitmore, who gives attention to detail with every meal he prepares. Not only can you stay at Brookhouse, there is a cafe which runs during the day, and there is a special dining evening on Saturdays. Even if you are not a guest at Brookhouse you can drop in for your breakfast or an evening meal. We are not related to the owner nor have we been paid for this review. We are just two ordinary journeying people who have discovered the secret of Clapham.

Clapham is a lovely picturesque quant village in a good location. Ideal for walking. Brookhouse is a very nice B&B, very clean, nice rooms and good breakfast. Evening meals can be booked in Brookhouse guest house which I would strongly recommend. Meals are cooked from fresh and they get meat from an award winning local butcher. There is a decent choice of meals on the menu and the food is excellent, the best we have had in a long time. You can take your own wine to enjoy with your meal. If you do fancy going to a pub, there is one in the vilage, but there are plenty of other pubs and restaurants within a short drive. Me and my husband really had a good relaxing break. If you fancy getting away from it all and are after a quiet break in unspoilt countryside, we would highly recommend a visit.
