Having visited the bottle kiln over the years i have noticed the last couple of times, things are beginning to not be `up to scratch` A recent trip confirmed this, four of us arrived there for lunch, we ordered two pies with salad, a tuna salad and soup, well to say we were disappointed is an understatement! the soup was like a bowl of mushy peas, one pie was cold, the other had hard lumps of potatoe, the tuna salad was a bowl of tuna/mayo with a side salad,& a roll,with 4 soft drinks we paid, £36 for this & it was all revolting,we complained to the manageress, who told us due to the late time we arrived,we had what was`left over`& they were short staffed, she was the rudest person i have ever met as a manager. No apology was given,& when we demanded our money back, as none of the food had been eaten we were met with`we dont give money back the next time you come,see me & i will see you right!!` like we would go back!! A visit to the toilet also revealed a loose toilet seat,no working hand wash, & generally a bit shabby. As we left she stood & glared at us, not even a good bye or sorry,much to the disgust of most of the people eating there, who a couple of them came to us to agree how out of order she was. Sadly i think the bottle kiln has lost the appeal it once had..so my advise is try somewhere new :)

I am a regular visitor to the Bottle Kiln restaurant as the food is wholesome and just excellent!
However the elderly shop assistant in the gift area leaves something to be desired. We are regular visitor to the Bottle Kiln as my elderly mother has difficulties in walking far and is registered disabled. During our visit yesterday she said that she would like to buy some Xmas presents for the family. We had already chosen a handbag and purse and asked for it to be kept behind the counter until we had looked round the rest of the shop. We were deciding to buy my nephew some shower gel and wanted to look at the size of the bottle inside before making a decision. To my amazement the elderly shop assistant came up to us and made us feel like children and common criminals and told us basically "not to touch" - we then noticed another young shop assistant in the corner looking our way - did they think we were shop lifters or what! We took offence to this attitude as it would have been much more helpful if she had offered some help instead. As as result we did not buy the handbag or purse or shower gel and will be doing our Xmas shopping elsewhere!
I just want to let her know that we have an excellent credit history, have no convictions our hands are clean and in effect we are good law abiding citizens!
Don't forget if you visit there - don't touch or the dragon will be after you!
