Couldn't have been better. Excellent food and we were looked after extremely well. Good atmosphere in a lovely, unspoilt part of Scotland. We will be going back here on our next visit.

I had the misfortune of paying a visit to this establishment during a recent trip to Auchmithie. It was a lovely afternoon and we were really enjoying ourselves until that is we entered into the But'n'Ben. We were informed that we were too early for coffee – it being 2.35pm. Now, I have no quarrel with such restrictions but I was put out by the abrupt, unwelcoming manner in which we were addressed by the woman on the counter. We remained polite, however, and headed for coffee in Arbroath where we were served by a young girl who could have given this woman lessons in charm and diplomacy. It is extremely disappointing to find that the bad attitudes and poor hospitality for which Scotland is so unfortunately renowned are regrettably rearing their ugly head here in our own backyard.
