I booked this guest house as I was hoping for a peaceful night after a long drive having to go to Manchester the next day. It looked from the clever pictures to be in the middle of peaceful countryside. In fact it is on an extremely busy road and on the other side it is very close to the airport. It would not have been so bad if the double glazing worked but it did'nt and in fact one of the window locks was broken and I could not shut it properly to block out the road noise. The door at the top of the fairly steep steps to my room kept sticking and made a lot of nosie when being pushed open and pulled closed therefore annonying either myself or the neighbours. The nearest place to eat was the pub up the road which was quite nice but not a great place to be sitting eating alone. The room was small but seemed clean and had everything required although I could not find a hairdryer (good job I took my own in case) and I could not find a light switch for the bed lights. The shower room was small but clean and well finished and the shower worked well. The worst part was the thin walls and the next door neighbours were not very quiet and I could hear snoring from next door and below. Then the neighbours got up at five in the morning and woke me up fantastic!! I missed breakfast as they do not start cooked breakfasts before 8am and the proprieter told me I would need to leave early to get to Manchester due to traffic (it sometimes takes me 15 mins to get out the drive he informed me)!! I could have had cereals but decided to head off and get breakfast in Manchester as I did not want to be late. In the event it only took a minute to get out of the drive way and 15 mins to get to Manchester. N.B. this was a Saturday morning, I think during the week it may not be so good. I was not offered a refund for the fact that I could not get a cooked breakfast. I ended up having very little sleep and was very tired for my conference the next day. It is clean and cosy but unless you have lots of time and sleep very soundly and are not disturbed by noise and are not alone. I would not recommend it. I won't be staying at that particular guest house again if I am in the area.

Be warned! Although a beautiful house and lovely furniture, the proprietors are just business people. We arrived late at about 9pm and were asked if we would like some homemade carrot cake. Gratefully we accepted, however, we thought this to be pure hospitality - not so as we received a bill the following morning for £9.80 for the carrot cake. I did point out that we would not have accepted this if we had thought or been told that it was chargeable. DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING WITH THESE PEOPLE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
