This restaurant is amazing! There is no better word. The staff are friendly, the food is amazing and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere! I fully recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a sensational Italian meal. I've been with my family and with a large group of friends and family and friends. I always enjoy it and always want to go back!

We loved this restaurant before... before it was left in the hand of the son of this hard working italian family, reception by manager (son) was pathetic, booking ignored, service what service : each table being asked the same questions 4 times by different waitresses and to top it up addition error on the handwritten bill made by...the manager (son) who was rude all along and did not present any believable apologies. Sad,sad, sad place, we are really sorry for the Chef and the old crew as they all know the cause of this state of affair...The stratospheric incompetent moronic manager (son), I hope you will excuse my French as I am Italian. We will never recommend or go back to this restaurant which went from one of the best italian family restaurant to the WORSE we know. Prof Michel Peressini

We too agree with all the positives and suggest anyone who doesn't should actually go to the restaurent!! we have visited many times over the last 12 years or more, from before our wedding at Rhinefield to this year, our 12th wedding anniversary, where we shall be taking our little bambino for the first time. It is truly a taste of Italy and long may it continue! Bellissima!!!!!!

Me and my boyfriend went here on a whim one Friday night. We arrived at eight O'clock and were disappointed as it was heaving and we thought we would be unable to get a table. An extremely friendly waiter went out of his way to get us a table ready and we sat down almost immediately. Our drinks order was taken a few minutes after we first sat down and we ordered a bottle of the Nero D'avola, which was the nicest red i'd had in ages! I ordered the grilled sardines to start and my boyfriend had the tonno fagioli - both were excellent, but nothin compared to the main course! I would highly recommend the monk fish, which came with lovely seasonal vegetables. My boyfriend ordered the Pulcinella fillet staek which was cooked to perfection. The service was brilliant, we didn't have to wait for long considering how busy they were and our waiter was very attentive. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to sample any of their deserts as I was too full, but the couple on the table next to ours were having something that looked amazing, and it was prepared right in front of them at the table by a waitress which was brilliant!! I would highly recommend this place, but next time we go I'm going to make sure I book! *****

My family and I have been dining at Il Palio on average about twice a month for the last ten years. My father and his friends eat there every weekend and often stay there for entire afternoons at a time. The wine list is most satisfactory and really does entertain some pretty impressive wines. When I was recently there my father and I enjoyed a fantastic bottle of Brunello. It is a family run restaurant and after going there for such a long time we have come to know them and they truly are a lovely bunch, always friendly and attentive. For those who can appreciate what a good Italian pizza should taste like, Il Palio will be heaven for you! They have an authentic wood burning oven which really adds to the authenticity and taste of the pizzas. Unfortunately, some people have become so accustomed to what can only be described as "American" pizzas - the thick, doughy and greasy concoctions served up in places such as Pizza Hut - that they are unable to appreciate a good pizza when they order one. I would recommend any of the pizzas, but my favorite dish would have to be the Pulcinella steak, which always arrives cooked to perfection! Fantastic food, excellent service and an unbeatable wine list, this place deserves 5* ratings. I agree with other comments made - don't be put off by one person's slanderous review, this restaurant is a gem hidden within the New Forest and should not be missed.

This restaurant has some of the best Italian food I have tasted in the South of England. he owner ARE ITALIAN and they import italian ingredients into england. The owners are fun and facilitating. Simon's review is unwarrented! Even the finest restaurants in the owrld once in a while get busy or make a blunder a recieve a bad review however, his review should in no way be a reflection on il palio - The food is supberd ( and massive portions). Give it a try!! *****

I agree with Simon Greaves below. It is such a shame when one person writes such a bad review based on one visit. I have been going to this place since it opened and have always found the staff very friendly. The food always arrives together and it is a very authentic, relaxed place. Tolerant of children. The portions are massive and reasonably priced. I ALSO love the king prawns al sale and the pizzas are massive! Cooked on a wood oven too! It really is like being in Italy. Considering how large the place is and the extensive menu, I think they do a really good job. Well done Il Palio! You are my favourite!

i was very exited when i first heard that my friend had booked a table at this restraunt for his birthday as i had seen this restraunt when passing by on the train on a regular basis. i was very disapointed when i left after the meal. the service was terrible. a few members of our party were running late which delayed what time we were going to order, which isnt usaully a problem in most restraunts but in this one the waiter was pacing up and down near our table looking at his watch. when we did order the food was not all brought out at the same time. after leaving the resturant 3 members of our party had food poisoning. i DO NOT Reccomend this resturant to anyone.

Its a real shame some people make up awfull reviews like the previous one. I was there that night at the restaurant, as i go almost every weekend sometimes even twice. Me and my family have been going to Il Palio for the last twenty years and have yet to have a bad meal. Any way that evening, like usual was very busy there were probably over a hundred people that night and the one thing you remember is that everybody around me had a wonderfull time so i really dont understand how one table could have all those problems. I have been to italy several times and Il Palio is the only place that comes close to the relaxed atmosphere that i have come to enjoy over my many visits to Italy. So please do not trust what one person has to say about a restaurant that has been going strong for 20 years, any buisness that has been going that long has got to be doing something right.

Really awful, service terrible. Waited 20 minutes to order drinks which then arrived incorrect 20 minutes later. Eventually collered a waiter to order food after 55 minutes, which took ages, ended up leaving restaurant before starters arrived. would highly reccommend people avoid!!
