I read the review by Anonymous on 6th March with interest. This cannot be the same restaurant I visited recently. Sophisticated, friendly and fantastic are not adjectives I would use to describe Huxleys. The restaurant itself certainly looked inviting from the outside but once inside our experience was obviously totally different. Our starters came to the table only 10 minutes after ordering, my prawn tempura was well presented but the prawn itself was encased in a thick stodgy batterered shell which tasted like something from a cash and carry, my friend chose the duck pate which arrived as a small portion with burnt toast. My main course of sirloin steak which I ordered medium to well done arrived pink on one side and overcooked on the other and came with a side salad which looked like it was just thrown together with leftover wilted salad leaves and some uninspiring cherry tomatoes sliced in half. When I asked the waitress for a steak knife she pointed out to me that I’d already used it but that she would fetch me another! My friend’s main course was cod which was coated in what tasted of paxo breadcrumbs and presented very interestingly in a childlike manner with new potatoes sliced in half in a circle around the plate. We ordered a £15 bottle of Argentian red which tasted slightly acidic and left both of us with a headache the next morning. I didn’t get the impression that the staff “always wear a smile” but that they couldn’t wait to get home. In summary this is by far the worst restaurant I have ever been to in a very… very long time and be sure to avoid it if you are ever in Chipping Campden.

This restaurant is not only smart, sophisticated and very friendly but the food is fantastic, the service is out of this world and there is never an unhappy face. The tables are nicely decorated with a single burning candle on each to give it a lovely glow and atmosphere. The drinks are superb and the waitresses are extremely helpful. I've never seen a dirty plate or piece of cutlery and the owner will not rest until you are satisfied. Every meal on the menu is original and tastes fabulous. The side salads are perfectly arranged to make the meal look even nicer than it already does. When walking into the warm, friendly restaurant you can smell the glorious food cooking and hear the low chatter of satisfied customers. The cook and helpers in the kitchen always wear a smile and if you ever wish to go this wonderful restaurant be sure to thank them for all their hard work. This is by far, the best restaurant I have ever gone to in a very... very long time. Be sure to go there if you are ever in Chipping Campden. Believe me it's worth it.
