Easily the worst restaurant in Ilfracombe if not the South-West. Notorious with the locals, its overpriced, the food is lousy & the staff obnoxious. Might appeal to those who think McDonald's is haute cuisine, but if you have any tast buds avoid

place looks great with excellent decor, unfortunately the food was over priced and awful. I had a venison steak that was nothing more than a lump of rubbery fatty meat. Some of the staff were nice but the owner started hoovering halfway through our meal kicking up dust and leaving the place smelling of the hoover. The owner was arrogant and couldnt care less. I would never return to that place unless it had new management.

Visited in May 2010. Ordered a salmon dish, not cheap prices, the salmon was not as expected from a quay side restaurant. Very dry and tough, had to send it back, complaint received ok but won't be going back any time soon.

The restaraunt looked beautiful from outside and the dishes on the menu sounded delicious - but it was disappointing that they did not taste it! Despite sitting at a table with views of the harbour and watching the fishermen bring in the fresh crabs, the crab starter was tinned! We were rushed through our meal and they forgot to serve the sauce that was supposed to accompany the lamb. The venison steak was rubbery and did not taste fresh. To top it all off, they added two bottles of wine and a lobster thermadore to our bill! We were not the only customers who were disappointed and needless to say, will not be going back. After speaking to the locals, we discovered that this restaraunt is notorious.

We found the Smugglers restaurant whilst walking around Ilfracombe looking for somewhere reasonably priced to eat in the evening and we found it. The girl waiting on the tables was doing a fantastic job on her own, I know it wasn't the busy summer period but she had at least 8 tables to wait on. The food arrived hot and was very appertising - although they did seem to serve a salad with everything, except the roast dinner! For £50 (2 people) we had a two course meal - a round of drinks and a bottle of white wine. Now to us that is good value. I would recommend this restaurant - don't believe the other reviewers - we back for a second night too!!!!

It looks inviting from the outside but it all goes downhill from there. Waiting staff do the bare minimum and the the food is nothing short of appalling despite charging astronomical prices. Without doubt the worst value for money i have ever encountered at a restaurant. A take away would be far better quality and about a quater of the price
