Living in Kendal we have often called in for tea during the happy hour, for quick pasta or pizza. We have learnt through previous experiences, that the food, service and presentation is only worthy of paying half price. In truth the restaurant is noisy, cramped and whilst large tables are catered for couples are plonked in a corner. I have tried the main menu once and it was little better than a school dinner. So unless a bowl of pasta or quick pizza is what you are after - leave well alone. Take note we have also been overcharged and on one occasion waited 15 minutes to order, so they could charge us full price.................

we visited giannis last week for my partners birthday as we had not been for a while. There was not one thing i could put down about my visit!! it was very, very busy (i noted one table seating a party of 20 people) and all others were full too!!! we were seated offered drinks and menus straight away promptly followed by impecable service and more to the point delicious food. I would advise anyone going to them to book as we would have been disapointed otherwise, the starters arrived hot and quickly (we were a tad aprehensive due to the sheer volume of people eating that night!) and followed sharply by our wonderfull main course's. I would personally recommend the minestroni soup and tortallini riggatoni but my friend would disagree and say the steak was to die for!! i also like how you can have a half portion of a pasta or pizza dish as a starter because the menu offers so much choice :-) a fantastic restaurant to which i would highly recomend , and one i will most definatly be visiting again.

We visited the restaurant on the 14th July 2008 for the ‘happy hour’ evening. When I arrived home I realised that we had been overcharged. I immediately telephoned the restaurant and found the staff member very unhelpful stating she could not find any evidence of my bill. Eventually she returned and said that I had been overcharged and stated that I could have a voucher for the amount overcharged to spend in the restaurant!! I said no and asked instead for the money back and asked if it was possible to have 2 free drinks to compensate, which was agreed. We went to the restaurant on the 21st July 2008 and when I came to pay I informed the waitress that I was owed money and it had been agreed that I could have 2 free drinks. The manager came over and was incredibly rude to us, stating that I could not have drinks and that I was only overcharged £7!! I could not believe my ears and pointed out that the amount of money was irrelevant. He then stated that he did not actually have to give me the money back even though they had over charged me!!!!! I was shocked by his behaviour and demeanour towards paying customers. I have never experienced such a rude, arrogant or obnoxious manager and we both felt very upset by the whole experience. The way in which we were spoken to was appalling and I urge everyone who reads this to spend their money in the other more deserving restaurants in Kendal to avoid a tirade of abuse from the manager. I will not be patronising this restaurant ever again, neither will our friends, family or work colleagues, this is a shame as the waitresses are fantastic but the manager is so unprofessional and rude which lets the whole establishment down, I note that this is not the only BAD review of this restaurant and other people have experienced poor service.

We turned up as a party of 4 on a Sat night in the middle of August but were seated immediately. The starters arrived quickly and were a good size, looking like main courses. I would have appreciated the offer of parmesan on my pasta, but perhaps they were right I didn't need it. The main courses were all magnificant, but it would have been good to have a steak knife for the lamb fillet. The wine list was pretty good, and the whites we had were chilled well. At £80 for 4 people having 2 bottles of wine and 2 courses each, we had no complaints to air.

Unfortunately this restaurant which used to be very good has become extremely poor judging by our recent visit when we went out of our way to eat there in the evening AFTER the end of their "Happy Hour". The service was outrageous with no recognition of our arrival until we asked politely to be noticed, then our dishes were plonked down in front of us in a very disinterested manner bordering on rudeness. Much worse was that our food was not thoroughly cooked and barely edible. I understand that the person who reluctantly gave us one of the several vacant tables and brought at least one of our dishes is probably the assistant manager. We live locally and are very sad that such a decline has happened, and we shall no longer be recommending Paulo Gianni's to our friends nor eating there ourselves. I would have preferred to discuss our miserable experience with the manager whom I believe is called Joel, before writing to you, but he is never available when I have tried to find him. My phone number is 01524 761575 if he wishes to contact me. Sincerely, Chris Nash
