Following my recent reading of this establishment revamp by Kaz then I will try and give it another go,it really couldn't have got worse than it was when I visited and after Kaz left his review it was confirmed by another customer. Will leave my review as and when I can after my visit.

What a change....its clean, tidy and smells fresh, staff are smart and polite and smiling. Seems there has been a management change and its great to see some TLC BEEN MADE IN THIS GREAT PUB. The food is great value for money, tastes great and very well presented. Well done....

2011 ... I am self employed in Abergavenny, but I also work in The Hen and Chickens, part time. I have to say in the past 3 months of new management being on site that I would suggest any unhappy customers gives the pub another chance . . It is a much, happier, lively and pleasant enviroment, with tasting pleasing food on offer. But, all reviews are welcome x

I dont know if anyone else has had the same problem but there have been one too many times in the past where ive waited quite a time for food only to be served cold i dont know if this is a problem with the kitchen or the waiters but somebody needs to get their act together there is no doubt that The Hen And Chickens can produce a very nice pub lunch If only certain people could move up a few pegs

I went along for a Christmas 3 course meal along with 16 others for our Christmas do.The starters of prawn cocktail and the homemade soup were delicious, however things then took a turn for the worse.I along with all my colleagues were disgusted with the slop of so called fresh vegetables and my sole of my shoe was looking more and more appetizing by the minute when looking at the beef on my plate. The turkey was no improvement on the beef as it resembled cardboard retrieved from a skip. The dessert was no better,I had a sticky toffee pudding that has to be said was edible, but by no means a delight to eat, maybe I am biased on my dessert opinion as I am a baker by trade, but the people that had the christmas pudding found it inedible and even suggested that the cellophane had accidentally been left on.My friend had a jam roly poly that even with his dexterity of strength was unable to cut through, even with copious amounts of custard it was still unwilling to be prized apart.Suffice to say that this is one establishment we will not be returning to,and I along with my coleagues will be advising others to do the same.

I had a bowl of cawl in the Hen & Chickens on Wednesday, I've never had cawl before but it was delicious.
