Good Points: Good location.Ample car parking. Friendly staff. Lovely breakfast. Bad Points: Common areas need a deep clean. Bad smell to stairways put me off eating an evening meal in the restaurant . Glass steps to restaurant dirty and again needing cleaning. General review: Just the cleaning required , otherwise fine.

At first glance this hotel is excellent. We arrived on the Friday and had a friendly greeting. A little surprised to find a wet paint sign on the room door but otherwise all seemed very good. That evening we struggled to get a table in the restaurant (you'd think a decent hotel would accommodate it's guests, or at least ask if you would like a table when you checked in!) but had a very good, reasonably priced, meal when we found a table. At this point I would have given this hotel a high rating. Unfortunately things went downhill at breakfast. We were presented with dried out food and toast made from dry, cheap seeming bread. The cook who had cooked for us the previous evening was either off duty or incapable of preparing a decent breakfast. We returned to our room to find the housekeeping staff apparently consider vaguely tidying the room to be sufficient, rather than clean the room and restock the bathroom with toilet rolls, clean towels, etc. The nearest shops are in Muirhead - a village that some may find somewhat intimidating, as it appears to house a high proportion of rough looking drunks in it's streets. Assuch it wouldn't hurt the hotel to offer newspapers etc. Instead you are directed to the village with a vague "there are some shops there". Our last night, Sunday, provided us with the opportunity to eat the worst roast beef I have ever seen presented in a restaurant. My shoe would have been more appealing. After seeing this we cancelled our meal and left the restaurant. We received no form of apology or explanation from the restaurant staff. Indeed the manager appeared to be hiding in the kitchen! Overall, I believe this could be a very attractive hotel if it were to tell it's housekeeping team to elevate their standards considerably. It would also benefit from consistency in the kitchen (preferably by teaching all the cooks to actually cook!

Ignored by staff, I could have been invisable. Sterile, impersonal bedroom/box. Restaurant dark-I couldn't see what I was eating. Very tired. Lounge like a games room/lads room. Not going back.
