just spent 2 miserable nights at this hotel, room was disgusting white markings on carpet round what was a leaking radiator, bath could not be used 'cause it was terribly stained-I certainly wouldn't use it!Light in bathroom not working.Dining "greeters" very unpleasant also reception staff the same.Hotel needs a complete makeover and millions spent on it.on the whole not a nioce experience and others thought the same.

visited hotel for 2 night stay.allocated an executive room in the wing of the hotel. the corridor leading to the room was in dire need of decorating with scraped walls and chipped paintwork, although the room itself was clean with good decor.housecoats and slippers were not provided untill the next day as the hotel had run out of them. food was good and the dining room staff were very helpfull. dissapointed that treatment rooms were in the grounds and not the main building. pool was ideal but tiles in the steam room were pretty grubby which I found offputting. would not visit again as bad points outweighed the good.

Good Points: 1. Bedsize 2. amount of space in the room 3. selection for breakfest 4. booking in restaurant 5. the staff are friendly and helpful Bad Points: 1. Disturbed by a party since our room was against the rear (july 26-28) 2. whole carpets on the floors 3. dinner; main courses were a little bit greasy and some desserts didn't last for late guests

We had a lovely 3 night stay here in June 07. The hotel is gorgeous, and the grounds are stunning. The walk from the train station could pretty hard going for some people so be prepared or take a taxi, it wouldnt cost much! the staff were very friendly and courteous, and the gym, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi are fabulous. The restaurant was good, and there is a lot of choice at the breakfast buffet. There is even a chef frying eggs out on the restaurant, so they are cooked for you and arent kept hot under lamps. There was a wedding on when we went, and there was a couple of American tours which added to the lovely atmosphere.

My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic stay here once again! It was taken over the from the Hilton...I stayed there a good few times with the Hilton and at times it was good and not so good. We had a wonderful stay here and the services were top notch! I would advise anyone to stay here and experience Scottish foods and the surrounding towns! However as there have been some bad reviews about the Hilton in the past I still have fond memories of it! i stayed there last in 2001 and I will always fondly remember a waiter (whom I was sadly dissapointed to hear that he had left some years ago) called 'David' (don't know his second name) who was deaf or hard of hearing (as i am deaf he could sign and this was remarkable as i travel a lot on business and never experienced such a good person), he made our stay at that time wonderful and added a personal touch, the hotel now is fantastic but little things like 'David' giving the personal touch made it which sadly you do not see much of these days. The diningroom was fantastic, Room great, leisure complex wonderful and of course not forgetting the surroundings breath taking! The breakfast was the best...i remember Hilton breakfastes being good but this eas outstanding! We will be back. 5 star plus!

I stayed with my partner for one night at dunblane hydro over the start of easter. After all the bad reviews writen than read we were both very apprehensive, so I thought I must write in to say what a wonderful stay we had! We booked through late rooms (rate of £79 room p/night) and consequently thought perhaps we would be given an inferior room (as had done w/other late rooms bookings due to reduction no doubt!) Not the case. I actually asked the receptionist on arrival (v.busy for easter thought notably calm & professional!) if we had a refurbished room (due to my concerns) and she said sorry, no-as we had requested smoking room. I panicked & then was very happily reassured-If It wasn't refurbished i dont think we could have had ANY better!!!!!!!!! Two tips (as advised by receptionist on check out, and what seems to decide the reviews-ie. room allocated)-: 1) Book quite far in advance AND request a room in the hotel itself (we were just lucky!) so you arent given one in the old building wing-which I hadnt seen but looked shabby from outside. 2)Ask for one of the upper floors and not the very bottom floor! -Check in was efficient & freindly -Room was top class (v.comfortable, & as photo on website) We had a top floor room and were very happy. And it WAS four star quality!!! :-) -Leisure facilities were wonderful & made our stay enroute to highlands & long drive. Felt totally rested next day, and facilities were v.clean (And they were only a 2min walk away, hardly an ordeal for anyone wanting to go to keep fit/unwind walking en route in grounds!!! -Breakfast was wonderful-Mammoth choice with buffet yet no slipping on quality (chef just on egg section alone meant no rubbery/underdone eggs! -Fantastic access for enroute to U.K or highlands in scotland. Just off main road, yet with extensive grounds set back totally quiet & restful. I really must urge anyone unsure- to book a room in the main hotel, then relax and not worry-you'll have a wonderful stay! Dont be put off by the bad reviews they're totally unjustified unless the room was a letdown, & this could be avoided (as advised) Thankyou Dunblane Hydro, we'll be back! Lucy & John

Have just had a great weekend at Dunblane Hydro, ignore all the previous reviews and judge it for yourself. Great service all round and food was good. Rooms are clean and tidy but we had a newly refurbished room. Would go back tomorrow if I could.

I stayed at this hotel for 1 night with my partner, i cannot believe the bad reviews i have heard about the hotel. I highly recommend it to everyone. We got a good deal dinner, bed and breakfast and the food was out of this world. The staff were so friendly and went out there way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We were in a basic twin room but it was clean and decent enough to stay in, we just pushed the beds together to make a double. Anyone who would like to go here please do so and dont listen to the bad stuff, only you can decide for yourself.

Stayed at the Hydro for one night. Check in speedy and staff pleasant. We were given a newly refurbished room and it was lovely. Evening meal was good value and the breakfast was superb. The swimming pool, sauna and steam room were great. Check out also very speedy and receptionist was polite and asked us if we enjoyed our stay. Came home feeling relaxed and chilled out. Would definetly return to the hotel. Had read earlier reviews so was apprehensive - but we had a great time New owner are really making a difference. great stuff

Price versus what we got was good. Food was good and well presented Public rooms in good order although smoking lounge in main corridor meant passive smoking was a reality. Traditional decor in keeping with the exterior. Disappointed the leisure club was a 300 metre walk outside. No entertainment for guests at what was a holiday period. For all that was good about it do not expect a 4* Hotel as it is clearly not. We were stuck in a noisy wing in need of refurbishment. This after asking for a refurbished room. Room was basic and clean, although the housemaids vacuum clearly needs extra suction power. Would I return - possibly not. More because of the room allocation and at checkout no one asked if we enjoyed our stay.

We read the review dated 27th October prior to our arrival and were concerned. Against expectations we spent a lovely weekend there and found the comments to be petty and unfair. Evening meals cost £21.00 - and the food reflected that. It was good with plenty of choice for different tastes. It was not 5 Star Michelin quality, but neither is the price! For us the staff made the weekend. While sometimes fairly young and inexperienced everybody we came across was always friendly, helpful and eager to please, which resulted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Yes, the building is old, but again that makes the experience and should not come as a surprise to anybody who looked at the photos! We were in one of the refurbished rooms which was wonderful. We will certainly go again.

My Husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit, we found the Lounges,Cocktail Bar and Dining Room reminiscent of a by-gone age of elegance, very relaxing and although the decor might be considered by some to be old fashioned, it was purely in keeping with the architectural style of the building. The Menu's were good, using traditional Scottish fayre in a modern way, with the food being beautifully prepared. Staff were all helpfull and pleasant and prices for drinks were reasonable. On the downside the wing we were in was being refurbished and the corridors were noisy and cold. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we will not hesitate to visit again.

My partner and I have just spent the worst break in years in this place. God help us if overseas visitors go here, it certainly doesn't give Scotland a good image. Outdated decor and the food is dire. We won't be going here ever again. I have sent a formal letter of complaint to back this up. Hilton Special? I don't think so. L E Donald
