My wife and I ate at this establishment together with a friend on 23 March 2012 and can honestly recommend it to anyone. All three of our meals were beautifully cooked and I can particularly recommend the Sirloin steak. I had the 10oz version (there is also a 16oz available) and it was cooked to perfection, as were the homemade chips and the vegetables which accompanied it. Service was first class and Dawn, (who served our table) could not have been more helpful. All in all, an excellent dining experience enjoyed by all three of us

We rarely go out for restaurant/pub meals when at home as we find we are disappointed with the standard/quality despite trying various restaurants/pubs etc when we are on holiday. I have to say it, I am a very good cook so my expectations are high and resent paying for meals I do not enjoy. This evening due to replacing our kitchen we had no choice. For convenience we choose The Black Bull. Its worth mentioning as it was the best meal out we have ever eaten. The quality, peresentation and the portions were more than enough - Oh lets say the total package was outstanding. We really enjoyed it and we want to share this with everyone who appreciates good food.

Just like to say we had a really great night at the Black Bull. Really friendly staff, nothing too much trouble and bent over backwards to ensure we had a good night out. Fine selection of food and a great specials board - something for everyone. The quality of the food was excellent and really well cooked, I had fish and was highly delighted. All our plates went back empty so they must have got it right. The bill was not over the top and I would be definitely making another visit to the Black Bull. Well done to all who work there and thank you.

i'd like to disagree with all comments regarding new years day meal. i was sat near the said table . The waitresses were mre than welcoming and polite in their manner. The lady with dark hair they claim as the landlady is one of the reasons why people visit the pub as she is very happy and polite. The request was more than reasonable to allow hot food to pass their table and so not to breach safety!! The food is always great , we had children in our party that were well accomodated for. Ive visited since and the standards havent altered. Excellent all round!

I was part of a party of 23 that visited this pub on New Years day. we were a party of family, friends and children. The food was excellent and the bar staff friendly and jovial. The issues started within the restaurant itself.Firstly I have to say I have never eaten out in a restaurant where all of the children were served last. every course we had, the children from the age of 2 to 9 were not served until all of the adults had been served-bizzar!!the waiting staff were vocal in "tutting" every time they had to pass a child and to top it off the 1YR OLD NEVER EVEN GOT HER BABY DINNER that we had requested and highlighted and underlined on our pre-order sheet that we gave them at least one month in advance to help out. the landlady was rude, stroppy and at no time during the luncheon did she or anyone else ask if everything was ok?? I think when you are spending over £300 pounds on a meal and a further £200 behind the bar the least you can expect is courtesy and there was none to be found, in fact the land lady was so abrupt my friend was reduced to tears and then she had the nerve to be defensive and say that she never upsets anyone!! likely story. I am sorry to say that the high standard of food is wasted due to the lack of skill of the landlady and the restaurant staff.

WE ATE AT THIS PUB !! ON NEW YEARS DAY . THE FOOD WAS VERY VERY NICE , BUT OUR NEW YEARS DAT WAS SPOILT BY THE RUDE INCOMPETENT WAITING STAFF WHO CLEARLY ARE UNDER PRESSURE WHEN DEALING WITH PARTYS OF 20 OR MORE . THE RUDEST OF ALL THE WAITING ON STAFF WAS A VERY VERY RUDE PERSON WHO APPEARED TO NOT HAVE HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE BASICS OF SERVING DINNER ! ALL STARTERS TO BE SERVED TOGETHER AND CLEARED TOGETHER , MAIN COURSE VEG DISHES TO BE CLEARED WHEN EMPTY AND IN FACT ALL CLEARED NOT LEAVE QUARTER OF DIRTY POTS ON TABLE AND THEN START TO SERVE SWEETS ,WHICH WERE A STORY IN THEMSELVES .THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS REGARDING SERVICE BUT A POINT TO NOTE , I NOW UNDERSTAND THE PERSON THAT WAS RUDE BEYOND BELEIF IS IN FACT!! THE LANDLADY !! NEVER AGAIN AND I WILL MAKE SURE I NEVER RECOMEND THIS PLACE , A SHAME AS THE FOOD WAS EXCELLANT HOWEVER MY DAUGHTER WAS VERY UPSET AS SHE HAD INVITED FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO WHAT SHE THOUGHT WOULD BE A FRIENDLY LOCAL PUB , HOW WRONG SHE WAS

TOO CROSS TO WRITE MUCH, I WAS WITH A LARGE PARTY CELEBRATING NEW YEARS DAY WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO BE TREATED LIKE WE WERE IN A DONCASTER TOWN CENTRE NIGHT CLUB . MOANING AND CHUTTERING AS A LADY CHOSE TO SIT AT THE END OF A TABLE DESPITE IT LEAVING A CLEAR THREE FOOT GAP BETWEEN THE CHAIR AND THE CHAIR BEHIND , DESPITE CHILDRENS MEALS ON THE MENU IT IS NOT A CHILD FRIENDLY PUB THEY SEMED TO BE IN THE WAY ALL THE TIME , SOMETHING THAT WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED HAD THEY NOT BEEN MADE TO WAIT TILL LAST FOR THEIR LUNCH , I COULD GO ON BUT THE MAIN POINT IS THE RUDENESS OF A DARK HAIRED WOMAN WHO SEEMED TO HAVE SOME SORT OF CHIP ON HER SHOULDER . WE SPENT ROUGHLY £450 AND NOT ONCE WERE ASKED IF EVERYTHING WAS OK DESPITE SOMEONE BROKE DOWN IN TEARS HAVING BEEN MADE TO FEEL SO UNCOMFORTABLE BY THE WOMAN WHO APPARANTLY IS THE LANDLADY !!

Last night we visited the Black Bull to celebrate my nephew's 18th birthday. Everything about our visit was outstanding. The service from the moment we arrived was friendly and helpful. The food was excellent in taste, quality and presentation. A number of our party are vegetarian, and they felt it was amongst the best veggie food they had been served while eating out. highly recommended.

My family and I have been to this eatery today for sunday lunch and quite frankly we have been left dumb founded that places like this can legally serve food. Although dinner was satisfactory when it came to the puddings I was disgusted, i ordered sherry trifle and when it came i could immediately tell that the cream was sour, it stank repulsive and there were lumps of congealed cream floating about in the trifle-it made me feel physically sick. I gave it back to the waitress who took it into the kitchen, when it came to paying for the meal I explained that I was not prepared to pay for something I had not had so would appreciate the pudding being deducted from the bill, obviously this was not a reasonable request as the bar staff became extremely confrontational saying that the bill was the same regardless of the pudding? Although i find this apauling as far as customer service goes, what astounds me even more is that i never received so much as an apology, my daughter is 7 months pregnant and if she had eaten cream that had gone off as that so obviously had I at the least would of been very ill, I cannot recommend this pub at all, in fact the only recommendation I can make is if you value your health-stay away from this place.

After reading the great reviews about the food at this pub we decided to try it out tonight. Although it was quite a few miles out of our way I can only say that it was well worth it. I had salmon with exotic salad and it was by far the most exotic salad I have ever had. There was a generous sized, perfectly cooked fillet of salmon (I am quite particular about how I like it cooked but this was fantastic). The salad was AMAZING - apart from the usual (different types of) lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, etc, there were 2 large slices of melon, bunches of seedless grapes, fresh strawberries, pineapple, star-fruit, delicately shaped apple slices and other fruit that I've never tasted before. The service was fantastic and the price reasonable. My partner (who is far more finicky than me) didn't have anything but praise. I would well recommend this as five star plus
