After a prolonged period (8 years+) the quaint old inn is back to its former glory (though it still needs a cot of paint outside!!!) with a new name - THE DROPPING WELL is as i remember it some 15 years ago with excellent beers and real home cooked food. The quirky decorations and friendly atmosphere have all been revitalised, and an open wood fire is very welcoming in winter.

Myself, my wife and my 2 small children visited this pub after visiting Mother Shiptons cave and as we entered I asked the barmaid where the beer garden was and began to order drinks, I was told rather rudely "I own this pub, children are not allowed in the bar, it is against the law" We took the children and our drinks outside and my wife returned to the bar to point out how rude the landlady was, she said to my wife "we expect you to come in, be polite, have a drink and leave" After a short discussion it came to light that when we first entered the pub, the lady in question had said hello to me, unfortunately I never heard her and she obviously took exception to this, ultimately, we were treat extremely rudely, impolitely and above all abusively after been called "typical tourists" by the landlady. Maybe it was mother shipton herself behind the bar........spooky, her attitude could have turned anything to stone that's for sure. Cheers

myself my wife and mother in law visited mothers shiptons cave and thoroughly enjoyed it until we came to the end of the walk hoping to have a spot of lunch,we ordered our meal at 1.00 and were still waiting at 1.40 my wife returned to the bar and had to tell the barmaid what we ordered she was told it would be 2 mins when it arrived we were very dissappointed the lasange was greasy and tough lumpy mince and all mushed up the steak and ale pie was burnt and very tough meat, this spoilt what had been a very good day and we would not return again
