Don’t visit this place at all costs, however inviting it looks. The guy who runs this place Ian is the rudest person I have ever met. When I complained about the food he said there was nothing wrong with it and refused to take it back to the kitchen. The steak was full of fat and gristle. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came back like it had been cremated, the chips soggy and the frozen peas over cooked to the point that they were inedible. I don’t want standards Ian and Dee are used too, but it’s not up to the extortionate price they charge for this terrible food. My wife had the minted lamb chops, again they were cremated and the red wine sauce turned out to be gravy with what appeared to be red wine vinegar mixed with it. My wife was also very ill for 2 days vomiting and many visits to the toilet after eating only a small portion of her meal. When it came to the bill I flatly refused to pay and Ian got very abusive and violent, it was only the threat of calling the police that he was led away by Dee and we were left to leave. This is an absolutely terrible place, something I thought you only see on the TV. This couple should be removed from the pub trade.

This is one of the coolest places I have ever visited. Dee and Ian are great hosts. They go up and beyond accomodating you. The bar is awesome. It was built somewhere in the 1600's. There is alot of history here and Ian is gracious enough to tell you all about it. Make sure you ask him to show you the old courthouse down in the basement. the bars from the old cell are still there. The rooms are very comfortable and haunted if that floats your boat!! The food is fantastic. Tony makes a great steak and being a Texan I know a good steak!! Make sure you try the Hob Goblin Ale it is very tasty!! I will visit the Cross again sometime before I die!!

We stayed one night. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast provided by Dee was great. Friendly, polite staff. No frills, no fuss, good value for money. We would go again.

wouldn't reccomed this pub at all. The manager is rude, the pub doesn't serve a good selection of drinks and they are expensive. If you want a good pub with a nice atmosphear go to the golden cross.
