A recently (2006) refurbished pub with rooms, The Dorset has had to win back drinkers and diners after previous owners let its reputation slide. But it's now an establishment that can please everyone: clean, fresh decor without none of that ultra modern animal print nonsense; a pleasant bar area, searpate dining room and large outdoor seating area divided into smoking and non-smoking; a wide range of beers including plenty of Harveys (the local brewery a stone's throw away) and good wine list; friendly and knowledgeable staff and the main attraction - simple fantastic food excellently cooked and well presented - far better than you expect in a pub. A large menu includes plenty of locally sourced produce but now also has an extensive fish and seafood selection as well - something that Lewes was sorely lacking. There are six en suite rooms which are quiet and nicely furnished and each has a TV. The breakfasts, cooked to order, are worth getting up for, too.
