Visisted yesterday with a number of family members as going to local cemetery. After the rather sour reviews were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. We were able to choose from a straightforward menus of various pies, chicken kiev etc., and choice of vegetables, and some vegetarian. They accommodated us arriving at different times, and the fact that some of us were drinking alcohol, some tea and coffee and some nothing at all! We were also saw what appeared to be local people also eating there who would know whether it was worth them turning up or not. Only shame was building to the right of the main building seems to have been taken down. Not all pubs have to be gastro pubs.

In reply to the review june 2011,I am so sorry you had a bad experience in the five bells, As the manager i take your review very personally and am also very suprised at your reaction. My staff (now changed) are profesional and have been trained by myself, the cigarette situation however i must appologise for I have tried to convince my customers not to smoke near the front door but there is a table right outside that they sit at. I can assure anyone that has read the review above that we are not a bunch of ne-andathols and we are respectful to everyone, the george down the bottom of the green is a very nice place to eat as a restaurant we however are a PUB and not everyone likes PUBS and the atmosphere you get. I would like to invite the person(s) to return to us and give us another try i can assure you that the pub has a new look with new staff and we are more profesional Nik the manager of the five bells

What a lovely location and on the outside an attractive pub but how sad inside - very old furniture mixed up with new stuff, no character at all and bad atmosphere from staff and customers, many of whom were complaining about food. We arrived at what was obviously a bad moment -a fairly large amount of mostly men were all coming through the door for a cig break and didnt mind who got in their way, they were not to be delayed, including we later realised staff too. Totally needs a re-vamp, including staff. Recommend if your in cavendish go to the much nicer George at the bottom of the green, might be a bit more expensive but definitely worth it.
