I cannot believe the reviews I have just read although I notice most are at least a year old. The service was abysmal, the food overpriced and adequate at best. Does it really take an hour to produce one sandwich and an overcooked plate of ham,egg and chips? Other customers came, ordered, ate and left while we were still waiting, upon querying this we were subjected to an aggressive outburst and told this was because our order was on a "different board in the kitchen". We were grudgingly offered a drink on the house, I'm only sorry I didn't ask for a large glass of wine!

Without a doubt this is our favourite restaurant in Southwold. We usually manage to visit 3 times a year our last to the restaurant was on New Year's Eve - we booked in October! The food was great, all the family of the owners dined with us, there was live music and firworks at midnight, a very special place in a very special little town.

Visiting Southwold for the Summer Theatre & dinner at the Blue Lighthouse has been a regular date in my summer calendar for 5 or more years. Living in Surrey it is a treat I look forward to and this year took my husband for the 1st time. I am a vegetarian and their Mushroom & Spinach Lasagne (£9.95) is excellent - seems to get better each year! Sadly this visit was spoilt by my husband's choice of dinner. He is not a veggie & chose the Rack of Lamb - at £14.95 it was a very tiny portion. He was not impressed and went to complain "nicely" to the Manager - who very disappointingly refused to change or add more lamb to his dinner. The Manager claimed he would lose out and knocked off a mere £2 - great customer service! His portion was very meagre by comparison with our lasagne. My husband would have walked out had he not been with me and my niece. Such a shame as it did rather spoil our evening. Will I go back? Not sure - probably but only for the lasagne! Have a feeling my husband will not be with me though!

We try to get to Southwold a few times a year and a first port of call is the Bluelight House for lunch. We've always found the food to be excellent, our last visit we had lunch and dinner on the same day. The food has always been of a consistant standard and my Seabass special was just as good as any fancy London restaurant I've eaten in. We are booked for March and I cannot wait! oh, the deserts.......!!!

We were staying in Southwold for the weekend and thought we would try the Blue Lighthouse. We live in London so eat in lots of different restaurants. Generally it was ok but thought that the portions weren't very big but the price was. The food tasted ok but for instance my husband had the cheeseboard (about £7.00) and got the tiniest pieces of cheese which was a disappointment to him as he is a big cheese lover. On one of the other tables we noticed that their cheese portions were considerably larger! Not very happy about that - I wanted to complain but my husband said "no we won't be going back!". I'm a great beliver that you should let restaurants know if a meal is good or maybe not so good! Also only males working there!

My first visit to the Blue Lighthouse will definately not be my last. We walked in without booking and asked if they had a table. The bar staff informed us they were full but offered us a drink at the bar with the opportunity of being seated shortly. While we waited we looked at the specials board and menu. We ordered at the bar and were seated within about 15-20 minutes. My husband ordered the twice cooked Quail and the Pork Fillet with Butternut Squash, I chose the homemade Crab Tart and Seabass from the specials, both were supurb! We shared the chocolate Assiette for our dessert, a fabulous end to an excellent meal. As other diners left we decided to stay and have coffee, it was at this point that the Lighthouse seemed to change. More and more people came in for a drink at the bar and the atmosphere became more lively. We decided between us that as we only had to walk back to our accomodation we chose to have a cocktail to finish a very enjoyable evening.

If our last two visits (Aug 05) are anything to go by, this year should be a very enjoyable experience. Excellent food, the friendliest staff, and a wonderful vibe. The Blue Lighthouse is definitely the place to see, and be seen ;-). See you next week........

Lunch time was very busy and had a long wait for the food. Sitting in the courtyard at the back was OK, but I would not want to wait that long in the noisy bar area.
