This is Hereford's oldest hotel and used to be a grand and wonderful place to stay. Unfortunately it's most recent and previous owners have not put back money into this business and are running it in a shabby state.doing the barest minimum. It has *SO* much potential, but is old.. shabby worn and a poor excuse for a hotel on a former grand scale. Tired and 'unpolished'.. with shabby furniture and dreadful carpets, it really doesn't matter how nice the people are, the accomodation in this sad once terrific hotel is very sub standard with creaking floorboards and noisey pipes. Maybe the owners of tha Castle Hotel should purchase the Green Dragon! Give it some love and make it once again the centre feature of the city! It's full of character and has some lovely features.

Good Points: Convenient location Bad Points: Old hotel way past time for refurbishment. Stained carpet and wallpaper. General review: As clean as it could be but shabby and unpleasant.

Good Points: Everyone was friendly and polite and we were made to feel welcome. Bad Points: Lift unfortunately was out of order the morning of our departure and the control panel was behind a locked door in our room (3rd floor)which we didn't know about until we walked down to reception with our luggage. General review: As you get older, you tend to notice more and expectations are higher. A few things need tweeking i.e, brandy was served in the restaurant in a sherry glass and not a brandy glass, and we had to ask for a drink with our meal as it wasn't offered. These are very minor things and they didn't spoil our stay, they are just observations for your perusual. We would stay here again, and hopefully the rain would have stopped!

Is this really a hotel??? Sub-standard in all areas. So hot in the bedrooms that one lady in my group spent the night sitting my the front door. One fan for the entire dining room. So called Executive room - one window which opened a few inches, carpet which didn't fit the room, stained furniture, 3 out of 6 lightbulbs which worked and half empty soap and shampoo bottles in the bathroom. Lift which doesn't go to the top floor. Un-uniformed, untrained staff who don't even know when Hereford Cathedral is open. Grim food and a horrible experience!
