Without doubt the nicest and friendliest pub I can think of with the guarantee of a wonderful meal.Have known John and Lesley for years and we eat at the Cholmeley whenever we can. The menu caters for everyone and I am loathe to pick out favourites because it's all so good but their Sunday lunches are a triumph with tender meat, delicious gravy, a hot selection of vegetables and so reasonably priced too!! I haven't forgotten the starters and desserts either-superb. Booking is essential though at weekends but don't leave it to the last minute or you will be disappointed.

Delicious home cooked food with excellent front of house service. Warm, friendly atmosphere with guest appearance from primrose in pearls.

This is regular haunt for us. PJ advises we don't come too often and tire of his food. This is hardly likely!!! My regular is the steak and mushroom, but you have to struggle to find much mushroom, succulent steak is a plenty under a crust that doesn't overshadow the pie. We have been going now for a couple of years and if we want to impress friends, we take them here, it never fails to please. It's good value for money, PJ is a bit of an expert on the wine front, and real ale available....what more could you want? But there's more, PJ's addition to the kitchen of a lady that cooks the most delightful puds only adds to the perfection of a great day out, her plum crumble with home made custard was to die for. Here's to sunday when we will be back again. Just two hints, preorder your pie and be on time to appreciate the good service offered.

My daughter and her partner live in Essex and we are in York....too far for each to travel and home in a day so we decided to meet half way for lunch. After reading the review here we decided that this was the place for us! Not only well located as a half way point but the food and hospitality sounded good too. We were not disappointed! We had what must be the best Sunday lunch in Lincolnshire if not England. Platefuls of delicious roast beef in red wine gravy together with the most amazingly generous portions of beautifully cooked vegetables I've seen anywhere. Our host and hostess were delightful and most welcoming. Needless to say The Cholmeley Arms is likely to be our regular meeting point now!

A lovely 'out of the way' pub. Very friendly and down to earth. Food was fantastic, although strangely no tomatoe ketchup or de-caff coffee available. Be prepared to go home absolutely stuffed!

Attended this as part of a party celebrating a friends 65th birthday, and had prebooked our meal (and Pie choice). What a delight! The meal (turkey and ham pie) was delicious with huge chunks of tureky and bacon in luscious sweet gravy sauce, topped by a perfect shortcrust pastry. This was server with Sauteed potatoes (yummy), cauliflower cheese and a variety of seasonal veg. All the food was cooked to perfection, we all agreed. Other attendees had the steak and mushroom pie or the game pie, and all enjoyed these thoroughly too. Our sole vegetarian also had a pie to herself (Quorn vegetable sun dried tomatoes artichokes & nuts) which she also enjoyed. Washed down with "Grantham Gold" bitter, this was a quite memorable meal. PJ, the host was very amenable as was his able female assistant who ran the bar, and shared a joke or 2 with us "oiks"! A True 5 star evening...
