The Brookhouse ... and declining service. After twenty years of regular patronage of the ‘Inn’ we have now removed it from our already assigned ‘lower option’ from family, friends and personal dining events. By ‘remove’ that is - ‘totally’. Last visit our lunchtime guests confided on the disgraceful service of your young girl attendant. Interrupting without apology, leaning over main dishes to fill accompanying plates - again without apology. She had earlier satisfied herself quaffing a drink in a casual style, ahead of the young man taking our order. She, also - carrying out loud conversations with ‘friends’ (locals?) to the extent that our table ceased quiet discourse until they had completed theirs. Her ‘enquiring’ on required servings, was brash, loud and outside the basic training of any catering college standards. A serving of four - arriving long after ours, was served first on all courses and departed before our intended sweet course - which we had by then decided to cancel. Such 'class' establishments cannot retain clientele on this current performance. But, ‘rot’ is never alone.... in this case it has emanated from the ‘top’. Good food is not sufficient . . . and the Brookhouse has excellent food. That’s it - enough said. We go our separate ways.

I can't help feeling that the official description of this hotel is stretching things to the limit. The village, whilst not unpleasant, is not the sort of thing you get on chocolate boxes and definately has been touched by modern times. The staff were polite and friendly, and the gardens pleasant. We had a room in the annex, and although the furniture was interesting and the room spacious, the carpet was dirty, the bathroom looked was an incongruous cheap seventies style, and the bed was horribly uncomfortable and noisy to sleep in. The window pane was broken. The restaurant was too bright, the carpet old and dirty. The food was OK, but vastly overpriced. Overall, poor value for money,.

As a restaurant connoisseur i have travelled the globe for excellant restaurants and hotels but The Brookhouse Inn & Hotel is a recurrent place where i feel i can go and have an excellant meal. Without typing any names, when i arrive at some restaurants i think to myself, it will not be as beautiful as 'The Brookhouse'. This restaurant is definately worth a try and then like myself you will not be able to resist a meal at The Brookhouse per month or so. You will be addicted to the generations portions of food and remarkable wine.
