Two negatives - the roast potatoes were burnt and they hardly gave any meat compared to other carverys. On the positive side there was a nice selection of veg which was cooked to an acceptable standard. I probably wouldn't go again with Toby Carvery down the road with a much higher standard.

The difference between a standard and a 'Go Large' meal are the meat portions, you'll have to know which of the meals are 'Go Large' if you have several meals and only a select few are 'Go Large'. As we allow customers to go back for more vegetables, potatoes and mash there isn't much more we can go to make that 'Go Large', so it's all about the meat portions which isn't bad for £1.50 each? You are allowed to go up for more vegetables, potatoes and mash as many times as you want! I hope you are all considering coming again soon as we have raised are game, and I'm sure you will ALL be impressed with our service, food and hospitality.

My partner and I have been going to the Golden Hind for a few years now ever since it was recommended to us as an alternative to the Toby Carvery down the road, which always seemed to be packed out due to its popularity I suppose. At first we were very satisfied, but in the last 18 months or so, we have noticed a steady decline in standards across the board. For a start, the meat portions are noticeably very small nowadays. On our last visit the meat portion I was given consisted of nothing more than three finely carved scraps. They have recently introduced a ‘Go Large’ option for an extra £1.50 which quite frankly is a total CON!! There was not such a good selection of vegetables, and most were not cooked properly. The roast potatoes in particular were barely cooked, and they were crunchy and inedible. I ended up leaving them. The bar service was very slow and the staff showed no real urgency or effort to serve people. The manager certainly has an attitude problem which we have noticed over a period of time. He is does not communicate with the customers willingly, he is impolite, abrupt, and there is no eye contact. Sadly, we will not be going back again and we will go somewhere else.

Have had several visits to the Golden Hind and had always been satisfactory but last Sunday it was terrible. There was a large party of us and were quite happy for the 20 minute wait promised. Service at the bar was exceedingly slow with the (very harassed) Manager avoiding eye contact and ignoring customers (not good for a service industry). They were very short staffed and, after 20 minutes, said they couldn't serve food because there were no clean plates or cutlery. Because we had bought drinks we were allowed (with very bad grace from the Manager) to eat. The meat was running out and those at the end of our group just got the odds and ends, not enough for a meal. If some of our party were not anxious to get away for their holiday next day they would have made a real complaint but the atmosphere was so bad, just wanted to get out. Regrettably will not go back.

My Husband and I have been regular customers at the Golden Hind and have always been very pleased with everything, good food and exellent value for money. Yesterday we took our Daughter, Son-in-law and three Grandchildren for Lunch. My Husband was asked if he would like to upgrade our meals to the larger size which he did, and we were very dissapointed that there was no difference at all from the normal size meal, apart from a difference of £7.50 on the bill, our youngest Grandson had a standard meal and there was no difference in the meals whatsoever. Please could you let me know how this new pricing works. Thank you. Mrs D.L.Cusworth.

I have been to the Golden hind on a number of occasions now and always found the Food & Service first class. Very Friendly but do find the charge of £1 to supply you with a plate so that you can put some of your food on for baby a bit much. Terry

Often go to the local Toby Carvery but me and my husband decided to try out the Golden Hind as a friend said it was very good. We went on our 29th Anniversary and had a lovely meal and the staff were very nice and pleasant could not do enough for you. Highly reccommend this pub.

We had heard some good reports of the carvery, at THE GOLNDEN HIND,so myself and my husband Ivan, decided to try the meals for ourselves. And we must say that the carvery was excellent, (carrots could have done with a little more cooking though)but I was not to keen on small children running around and crawling on the floor, We felt this was dangerous with people walking about with hot food on platters, as I saw someone nearly trip over a baby lying on the floor which the poor person did not see until it was nearly to late. Thank you for a lovely meal in very nice surroundings.
