the pub was busy on the day we visited however this was no excuse for the lack of organisation. it was not clear where to que at the bar for food some like me joined a long que at the bar while others were able to walk in and get served straight away. The food order was mixed up by the member of bar staff, luckily the chef did give me what I had ordered. The food was of average to poor quality and certainly not worth the money.

I wouldn't bother ordering a meal and asking for it to be brought over. The way it works is that they operate a carvery, you pay for your drinks and meals at the bar, they give you a ticket and when you feel ready, you go to the serving bar where a chef carves you off slices of beef, ham or turkey whichever you want, or a combination, and you help yourself to roast potatoes, vegetables, gravy, horseradish, cranberry and other sauces, as much as you want, and take the plate back to your table. It is exceptionally good value but most people take pretty big helpings so you will not get slimmer if you go often. Puddings and fancy coffees are also available and are waitress service. It is very full on Sundays and around Christmas. They have a few pub-type tables where you could sit and drink, but that's not really the point of going there. Very nice restaurant, and stunning value. Bottle of good wine is about £8

On Thursday 6 of us had lunch (4 adults/2children).The carvery was excellant and very good value for money. We came back to Yorkshire on Friday but the next time we are `down south` we shall certainly visit Barley Mow again.

After poor service the last time that I visited this pub I was very reluctant to give it a second go. My wife persuaded me that it had improved since our last visit. We arrived at 17.15 and I went to order our meals, I was told that the wait would be 30 minutes. We ordered our meals, got our drinks and sat down, at 18.45 my wife suggested that I enquire where our dinner was, I spoke to the lady at the counter who said, sorry we have forgotten you, but if you sit down we will bring your meal over. I asked for a refund and went to the local chippie and was served in 5 minutes. Would I recommend the Barley Mow? guess.
