WE COULD NOT FAULT THE FOOD IT WAS EXCELLENT AND THE BAR MAN WAS NICE -
BUT THE TWO WAITRESSES WAS ANOTHER THING - SOUR FACE - WOULD TURN YOUR FOOD OFF - THE ONE IN THE BLACK AND WHITE TOP WITH BLACK TROUSERS WAS RUDE -
WHEN WE ASKED FOR SOME MUSTARD TO GO WITH THE STEAK - SHE GOT A VERY SMALL SPOON AND THROW IN DOWN ON THE PLATE -
NEVER ASKED HOW TH MEAL WAS - DO NOT
WELCOME US OR SAY - HAD A NICE MEAL GOOD-BYE - WE STAY AT STARCROSS TWICE A
YEAR - BUT WE WILL NOT GOOD BACK TO THE SHIP -

Under new and energetic management, this pub restaurant has become a real treat for eats and pubbing. With a new snug, clean and simple lines in the restaurant, and a friendly welcome, The Ship has become a real alternative to The Anchor, the village's famous fish-specialising gastro-pub.
We had a starter of squid (really succulent) followed by tuna. The vegetables were fresh (Michael Hodgkinson insists on produce being as local as possible)and cooked al dente, as requested. With main courses at the £7-8 mark the bill was amazingly modest for a delightful meal. There's a short but pleasing wine list - and the menu is of an equally modest length, proving that all food is cooked to order, not microwaved out of the deep freeze as too often happens elsewhere.
A tableful of real foodies opposite us were waxing lyrical (sorry about the cliche but it's so apt!)about their choices, so both they and we will be returning, and often!
