We visited the Bickley Mill for Sunday lunch. The setting is lovely, and is very 'oldey worldy' bordering on twee.
We didn't have starters. I had the beef and my wife had the lamb.
The food was nicely presented and pleasant tasting enough. My wife thought the meal was fine, but I was disappointed. Nothing to write home about.
There were meagre portions of veg and potatoes.
I wouldn't describe it as fine cuisine, just another Sunday pub lunch albeit in a more beautiful setting. You would get better value for money at the various Sunday carveries around the area. At least, more choice of vegetables and potatoes.
All in all, the Bickley Mill is a pricey pub lunch for what it is.

Visited for lunch and had good although slow service. A vast sum has been spent on transforming the Mill from an old dark outdated pub into a trendy gastro eatery. The decor is good and overall ambience is comfortable. The dry white Chardonnay we had with lunch was pleasant, as was the smoked haddock rarebit I ordered. Sadly the wife's cheese ploughmans was very poor, the chef had either run out of cheese or thought that minimalist look also applied to portion control. Un-dressed salad and a small amount of bread left her feeling disappointed. The groups of senior ladies in the restaurant all left saying they would be back so obviously they Bickley Mill does please some of the people but not all. Try it for yourself, just don't have the ploughmans - go to the Nobody Inn at Doddiscombeleigh and try theirs- fantastic!
