I live fairly locally and have seen a lot of work going on at the place over the last few months. The place has been restored on the outside and now looks really lovely with the new pain job and the hanging baskets. I have known it has been open again now for some time but because of bad experiences in the past I had never thought of going in the place. My husband, the kids and I were going out to our usual Sunday lunch haunt but saw one of the chalkboards outside the pub offering a 2 course Sunday Lunch for £5.95, 3 courses for £6.95 and if you wanted the same deal in their carvery it only cost one pound extra. We went in and were delighted with the place, its now so clean and tidy and the sunday lunch was just as it should be, everything fresh and not overcooked. It was quite busy when we went but they managed to fit us in. Great job and we will be back to try the rest of the menu soon

Called in just on finishing time for early bird specials but the staff were very obliging and allowed us the choice.Tasty home-made chips and I'm not a chip lover. Great to see staff looking smart in the black 'uniform', good choice.Refreshing to see a place so very clean and tidy. I understand it has been taken over and I'm sure that if this is the start of this pub and the way for things to come then it will end up being very busy and will be revisited by many.By the way in response to the review by James, being in business myself,.. 20p is not for the tap water, there does have to be staff, utilities, etc etc in order to pay for the service but obviously you will be intelligent enough to realise that. So keep up the good work and standards, all the best and maybe I will get to try the battered scampi if ever I am up that way again.

I work locally and know the place has been open for a while now. I used to go there in the past at lunchtime but was always put off by the number of students that seemed to be just hanging around the pool table. They always seemed to be there not drinking or eating but stopping others from playing pool. I went there for a drink and something to eat when a colleague was leaving and was amazed at the transformation of the place. They are busy doing the outside at the moment, but the inside was really nice. It is spotlessly clean and has been refurbished to a very high standard. The food was really reasonably priced and the quality and quantity was great too. They even seem to have sorted the students out too. There were students in, even playing pool, but at least this lot looked over 18 and were well behaved. I had a great afternoon there and would recommend the place very highly indeed.

I have been back to this place on many an occasion since the new owners took over last year. Being a bit selfish I wasnt sure I wanted the word to spread just how good the food in this place is. I am sure once everyone finds out its open again you wont be able to get a seat. I had the Fish and Chips and if there was a pub competition for this dish The Salutation would win hands down. My boyfriend had the Steak and Ale Pie, he loves his grub but even he struggled with the amount he got. 10 out of 10 and we are delighted the place is being run properly again

Only went here to see the Band but decided to have a meal while we were waiting. My only complaint was too much on the plate. The band, MINNIKIN, were fantastic. They had the place rocking from the start of their show to the end. If you haven't seen them before look on their website to see the date of their next gig. WWW.MINNIKIN.COM.

I heard on the grapevine the place had re opened and was under new management so I thought I would give it a whirl. I went in one evening with my girlfriend and was amazed to see how pleasant it was inside now. It has been refurbished and from what I could see it was spotlessly clean (something that couldn't be said in the past) We had one of their Early Bird Specials, a starter, a main course and a glass of wine for £6.95 and was amazed at not only the quality of the food, but the amount you got (normally with specials its smaller portions). The food was lovely, I had the scampi, none of your frozen rubbish, this was really fresh in real batter. My girlfriend had a steak and was really pleased too. First time for a long time I have been in there, but I will definately be back really soon

i am really disapointed with this pub. it use to have a very high standard. i thought it was intolerable that a young student was asked to pay for tap water at 20pence a pint. Then because the lad had gone over to his mates to tell them what he had been told. The manager procceded to throw him out then start to accuse the young lad of assulting him when a police car came past. I found this very shocking from a bar manager and i wont be telling people to return to this public house. the managers attitude to this student was totally bad manners. he goes on about racial behaviour this was racial harrasment to any young student who only wants to drink water. AND TAP WATER IS FREE BECAUSE THE LANDLORD ALREADY PAYS FOR IT WETHER ON A METER FOR WATER OR NOT.... YOURS SINCERLEY VERY DISAPPOINTED j Stevens
