We booked here for Christmas dinner after hearing some good things. So arrived on Christmas Day, to find a rude half hearted barmaid, making no secret of the fact that she found serving us a total chore. I ordered a Bloody Mary, and was given a shot of vodka in a dirty j20 glass, and a bottle of warm tomato juice. No offer of ice, or anything. We went to get our table, and couldn't find anyone to tell us where we were sitting. Another customer eventually got the attention of the surly barmaid, and she showed them there table. We asked for ours, and she disappeared for about 10 mins, then came back to tell us we were sitting on our own, not in the restaurant, but in the packed public bar. The table wasn't laid out like the ones in the restaurant it literally just had some cutlery thrown on it. I refused the table, explaining that I had booked back in November, and was expecting to sit in the restaurant. Eventually the landlady came out and said that was it, no choice, we either ate our Christmas meal in the packed public bar with drunk people wandering around in onesies ( yes really) or we could come back in a couple of hours and she would try and fit us in then, at this point a couple of other customers had joined in to say the whole thing was a shambles. Bearing in mind this is Christmas Day and I've paid £80 for the privilege, I said ok we would just take our money back and forget it.... And guess what?!?! She could only refund half!!!! Total, total disgrace. Only go to this place if you like rude surly staff, and no customer service whatsoever!!

although the restuarant itself was very clean and comfortable the food was awful.mywife and myself had the chicken dish which was totally devoid of any taste and very dry,the mushroom starter in some sort of sauce was just as bad.very disappointed.

Awful place! Booked a meal two of us to celebrate my birthday. Only around 5 people in the place at 8pm on a Friday evening - I should have taken the hint! Friendly waitress who unfortunately had a cold or hay fever constantly sniffing. The place was alive with flies - on the bar, glasses, tables etc. We ordered a bottle of wine which was plonked on the table complete with the lid still on and glasses upside down. We ordered starters and a jug of tap water. The water was delivered luke warm without any ice or glasses. The starters arrived and the food was OK. It was when I topped up the water glasses that I noticed something about the size of a slug in the jug - black/brown, mouldy and furry with a silty sludge! The waitress was also surprised when we pointed this out and replaced it with a clean jug and some iced water. The main course also arrived but we both felt sick by this stage. We paid the bill and left without eating the main course. Friendly staff, food OK but dirty and fly ridden pub/restaurant with disgusting hygene. I will never go back whilst under the same management.

We came to Cambridgeshire to spend new years eve with friends in Houghton, they took us into The Three Horseshoes where we spent the full night. We had the best night in years in this pub, there was a band playing from 8pm until the early hours and the food was exceptional,a hot buffet consisting off sweet and sour pork, tikka and beef curry, the cold buffet too was very very good, fresh salmon, king prawns, crab, all but a few to name and on top of all that was a hog roast, there was ample to go around with fresh food being brought out constantly. This was a 5* meal,we will certainly be returning to this pub, well done to the landlord and all his hard working staff. We did notice 4stars on the door going into the pub but we believe it deserves 5.Many thanks

My husband and I visited this pub with the intention of having a light meal but when we saw the menu we both decided on trying the steak.I have never had such a tasty steak and cooked just as i ordered it,the vegetables were also cooked to perfection,we were very satisfied with the meal and the price and will certainly be returning in the near future.Compliments to the CHEF.

Ordered on recommendation from the barman, the Chicken & Asparagus 'Special' and scampi and chips, for this I was charged £17.95, which for pub food is on the high side. The Chicken & Asparagus 'Special' consisted of one smallish chicken breast fillet, 3 florets of broccoli and a few carrot shavings, at first we couldn't see the asparagus, but eventually found two tiny spears stuffed in the chicken fillet. For a tenner it was a rip off, and for £8 the scampi was no better....8-10 breaded scampi, a few chips and some peas.....no attempt had been made to 'dress' either meal and as such the two meals looked exactly what they were i.e. small amounts of cheap frozen food served up with little or no care at rip off prices, and that made a mockery of their own description of themselves.... "Restaurant Food & Service at Pub Prices".....the other way round I think ! I agree with the other reviewer regarding the staff...naive and inexperienced.

Booked for 2.30 expected sunday roast but! no beef or pork left, table in conservatory reserved but due to torrential rain we were getting soaked from leaky windows!! eventually ordered meal staff seemed a bit naive and not experienced (have experience in pub trade and staff were really poor)meals were 3 turkey roasts and salmon salad; asked for cranberry sauce never appeared!. upon paying bill we were charged for yorkshire pudding bearing in mind lack of choice for roast thought they would include a yorkshire pudding: Would certainly not reccomend this the staff were so inexperienced they seemed not to care: Good ale but not recommend the restaurant
