Stopped off for a drive break at 2.15pm asked for a sandwich or bowl of soup. This was refused as all food facilties were closed. However they did offer food to residents. I put it to the manager that if they could give residents food then a hotel of this status should be able to provide for weary travellers. Fell on deaf ears detected an attitude of too bad. As a result will not be back.

Booked in for one night following a cancelled holiday/flight due to volcanic ash. At best the hotel is a good quality 3 star most definately not four star. Clean and tidy with beautiful grounds but what makes it stand out as a 3 star pretending to be 4 star is the lack of customer service/care.The night staff(actually the night porter, an ex-miner I believe, with all of the finesse of a slapped kipper)was nothing short of vile and rude in his approach to customers.Do not ask for anything because this chap is not remotely bothered about letting you know that hes naffed off about it!. Discourtious, lack lustre, humoureless and obviously has problems with social interaction .The manager of this establishment needs to seriously re-assess some of the staff members suitability for the role of meeting members of the public, particularly paying ones.

Good Points: quiet, relaxed atmosphere lovely decor and great breakfast Bad Points: dirty carpets in both rooms we where in, we asked to be moved because first room had badly stained carpet, so did the second one. At the pool the life guards who looked quite young were not bothered about the 3 young girls who where jumping in and squealing whilst running around pool edge which on the posters it said no jumping in General review: we really enjoyed it lots of facilities, clean (apart from above) friendly and well worth the money we payed Thank You.

Have stayed here 4 times and it has been perfect but this time it all changed. They are now having coach parties staying and they get the best restuarant and menu whereas everybody else had the same uninteresting menu for the whole of the week. The standards have gone down and the food was not nice, either cold or dried out by being under heat lamps. Staff not friendly and appear to be untrained. Will not stay here again.

Good Points: Room was very good - if a tad small - bathroom was minute. Clean and comfortable though thankyou Bad Points: Breakfast was awful. Did not bother on the sunday morning. Even at 7am everything looked dried up and was totally tasteless. General review: Good location, comfortable room, lovely grounds, great staff. Reasonably priced............ Big shame about the breakfast.

My husband and 13yr old son first stayed at the hotel in the Penthouse Suite and they where very impressed with the rooms and staff. They kept on at me to go for the weekend which we all did and I must say the whole experience was BRILLIANT. My first impression of the hotel was splendid the outside looks fantastic with lakes , fountains, geese and swans roaming around. The room we stopped in was a deluxe family room with lake view the room was fantastic with a beautiful ensuite, Room service was prompt and food hot. I would totally recommend a stay in the hotel. Outside in the grounds is a lovely family entertainment pub with park and amusements for kids and plenty of grassed areas to play around on. Infact I enjoyed it so much we are all going again on 20.07.07

Table booked Saturday 19th August 2006 Time: 19:30 On the above evening, me and my wife and daughter ordered our meal and was sat down at our table, across the room on another table was two balloons with birthday and anniversary on them, my wife asked the waitress if these were for another party, celebrating the same as us ie:our wedding anniversary and our daughters birthday, the waitress was very abrupt and standoffish and said that we should of told the receptionist at the time when we booked what we were celebrating (which incidentally we had already done),the waitress made my wife feel that she had to explain herself, around 5 minutes later, the waiter came along with the balloons from the other table and cards apologising for putting us on the wrong table, that was fine, no problem. The main meal that my wife and daughter ordered was not what we expected, the fillet steak my wife could not fault, but was surprised by the side salad, we always thought that a side salad consisted of Lettuce, Tomato, Cucumber and onion, on a plate at the side, this side salad was put on the plate with the steak, limp lettuce, and grilled tomato, the new potato’s were cold along with hard carrots and cold beans along with cold chips. We were really disappointed as we have had fillet steak, side salad and chips before, and was always what we had expected. When my wife received her suite, after taking a few bites out of it, suddenly noticed a human hair on the plate, which my wife did complain to the waiter about, and stated quite clearly that we were not going to pay for this suite. We have been to the Celebrity Restaurant on many occasions, and have never been treated so badly in the past, on this occasion, the service was appalling, from start to finish considering that we had spent £68.00,it was certainly not worth that amount, we have had much better service at our local fish and chip shop! However, we have always in the past, been made to feel very welcome, what went wrong this time? Different staff? New chef? By the way, we also did not appreciate eating our meal, while wedding guests from the wedding party next door, decided to mingle around our tables, while we were eating. Don’t like complaining, the South View Hotel does look very impressive, but feel that on this occasion, the staff in the Celebrity Restaurant certainly did not match this. We sent a letter of complaint to the manager of the celebrity restaurant, which we have had no reply,we have now sent the letter of complaint to the hotel manager, not heard anything as yet!!

me and my girlfriend had a short stay at this hotel and the first night went really well and my girlfriend even agreed to marry me, then from the evening of the following day it went horrible,we stayed in the penthouse suite and the key card wouldn't even work,i had to go back down to reception to get it re-swiped, then later when we went to go downstairs for food the door was broken and couldn't even leave as the door would not lock. which took us to a 2 hour wait with the reception calling on security to try fix it, NO MAINTENENCE! then we had an even longer wait to get a menu in which my girlfriend who is pregnant with twins phoned reception 3 times with no answer. after all of this all that got taken off the bill was the £5.50 room service charge which is stupid. having looked at the official site,it states how each room contains robes and slippers WHICH THEY DONT! and how each balcony in the penthouse have chairs and breakfast tables, once again this is a LIE! ther is barely room for 2 small chairs on ther. we also had to put up with annoying kids from the caravan park running all over outside and even throwing stones at ducks in which i really got mad and even shouted at them myself. i give many thanks to the man on security for taking the time to try fix our door, also to the house keeping lady who was herself annoyed that the hotel had done nothing more and finally to the young lady on reception who was very helpfull in helping us with details and re-swiping our card. to these people i give thanks, other then them 3 people ther is absolutely no reason that i would recommend this hotel.

I realy enjoyed staying at southview and we are planning to go back in october, the facilities are good and the staff up at the leisure centre are all friendly, one of my friends amy works in the restaurant. The prices are a resonably good price and you can have hours of fun in the swimming pool, Their is a large fishing lake where you can fish all day. All the staff at southview are very friendly and will hope to see them all again in october
