Stayed here in my caravan overnight, had planned to stay longer but moved on. What a disgrace this site is. The toilet block is an old farm building and its filthy. Its across a cycle way and there are no lights on in an evening so you take your life into your own hands and go down a set of decaying steps to get to it. The owner greets you nicely but I saw her being very domineering and almost rude when she didn't like how someone had sited their van.

The owner is friendly.the grounds are lovely but the toilet &shower blocks location lets the whole site down.We were staying in a tent & were at the far corner of the site so had to walk along distance to the gate then we had to go down about a doz very uneven steps ,then across a cycle track through another gate then down the path into the block .My daughter&I had to visit in the night we arrived at the toilets to find it in darkness we had to go through in darkness until we went into one of the toilets to switch the light on.The toilets &showers were very clean but a nightmare to get to especially if you have problems with your joints.

Byreside Farm is a site we have visited on and off for 12 years, there have been many changes in that time, however the one thing that has not changed is the warm and friendly atmosphere. The site is family owned and run, and anything they can do to help you enjoy your stay the will do it!. Byreside Farm Camping / Caravan site has hard standings and a section of the site is put to one side for tents. BYRESIDE FARM straddles the borders of Durham and Northumberland and although its only 10 mins or so from one of Europe’s largest shopping centres (THE METRO CENTRE POSSIBLY THE LARGEST IN EUROPE). Don’t let it put you off by thinking it’s an urban area, nothing could be further from the truth. It’s in a totally rural setting with loads to offer. Along the edge of the site there is a footpath made from a disused railway line. It goes from Swalwell on the banks of the Tyne to Consett the gateway to the Durham Dales. The footpath is very popular used by ponies, cyclist and walkers. Within minutes of the site and to some just a nice afternoon stroll, are a roman fort an ancient mill and the Bowes Lyon (QUEEN MOMS FAMILY’S) Gibside Chapel and its gardens. Other local attractions are Beamish Museum, Durham Cathedral and Castle also the numerous castles of Durham and Northumberland, . (More per mile than any where in the UK.) this along with the fantastic scenery of the area. There is so much locally it would take pages to mention them all so I will leave it there, however before I do I must also mention ,The Roman Wall and the Coast they are less than 30 mins from the site too. Byerside Farm Camping and Caravan Site has one other thing going for it too. The Price it’s the most economic site we have found in the Area. All in all a Great site that’s great Value Too.
