Nice venue, lovely carvery lunch or dinner, shame about the management! Unfortunately it was necessary to cancel two places from a group of work colleagues attending a Xmas Party Night at this hotel due to the unusual snowy and icy conditions. The meal and wine had been prepaid, but the cost of wine should have been refunded without argument. This, however, did not happen. The wine was put on the table and when it was pointed out that it had been cancelled, a refund was refused – the wine was therefore taken home and given to the two people who had been unable to get to the hotel. The wine was duly returned to the hotel for a refund, which was again refused in a high-handed fashion by the manageress, who then walked away from the situation saying “she didn’t have time to deal with it” when a satisfactory solution was not reached. The wine was kept by the hotel. In an effort to sought this matter out, the organiser of the work event telephoned the manageress; she also experienced the same rudeness and dogmatic attitude. This is an independent hotel whose owner apparently lives abroad. Having not been able to gain satisfaction from the manageress, I e-mailed the hotel with the request that my complaint be passed to the owner. No reply was ever received from the owner. A refund was eventually forthcoming but my work colleagues, friends and I will not be returning. It beggars belief that any hotel would argue about two bottles of house wine which could be sold time and again, particularly when the full amount of the meal (£62) has been pocketed!!

I read some nice reviews of this hotel and decided to follow their advice. I can only question the integrity of the reviews. The hotel and our stay did not conform to what I had read. We found the hotel to be run down and twee, the flat screen tv (24") was placed so high in the room as to be uncomfortable. We were given no prior warning of a weddding that was taking place that night. We should have been told about this when booking as our room was directly over the bar. Our complaints where met by the a smile and weak apology. I would never return, the stay along with other recents visits to the south coast have really underminned our belief in the integrity of hotel managers and owners.

Good Points: It was very clean and comfortable and the air con was great! General Review: We were not told about the wedding that was going on there.
