My first visit was with friends who were anxious to show me a visitor form Austalia how there was more to dining in Edinburgh than fish suppers. Was suitably impressed by the service - we didn't book, but just turned up - and delighted that Haggis was indeed on the menu. Visited several restaurants during y three week holiday, and returned to The golf three times..including for my farewell lunch on the day I flew back to Austalia. food was excellent, ales as expected, and service also xcellent. Thoroughly recommend it to any travellers, and hopefully will manage to visit again myself on a future sojourn..althugh hopefully HIbs will be a bit more successful this time!

Made to feel very welcome. We asked about dining and were happy to eat in the lounge (very comfortable and warm on a bitter night outside) but without prompting the staff enquired whether there was a restaurant table available and offered that as an option if we preferred. We chose to stay and eat in the lounge. We were given both the lounge and the restaurant menus to give us a broader choice, we could 'mix and match' as we desired. Food arrived promptly. We all ate different starters and mains, 6 meals in total. All were of a very high quality, well presented and of sizeable proportions. A good choice of different beers, didn't try the wine list but I am guessing it would be in keeping with the overall quality of food, service and environment. If it wasn’t a 600 mile round trip I would go there more regularly.
