My wife took me for a surprise evening meal to the Camellia, South Lodge for my birthday. We have been half a dozen times before and it has been faultless. What a disappointment !!!!. It is a distant memory from what it used to be. The fine dining prices remain but it is now gastro pub / bistro food. Chicken liver parfait, fillet steak, chips, bernaise - we couldn't face desert. It was good but comparable with some good local pubs. We won't being going back !!!

I had been looking forward to visiting the South Lodge for a meal for some time but I found the food very disappointing and not well cooked. The prices for what was served were outrageous. The service was good but not attentive. The taster before the meal was a scallop, my wife, who is vegetarian, was given two pieces of asparagus despite the fact her starter was also asparagus.

Probably the best lunch menu I have seen in the UK. Fantastic setting coupled with a comfortable ambience. The food was simple, pure and imaginative. Cost under £20 for a 3 course meal. I would recommend a visit to enjoy probably one of Englands best kept secrets. If I had to find a small fault it would be the wine list, as it seemed a little to muddled and non descript. Tip When booking ask for a window table. A 98% satisfaction guarantee! ENJOY
