Living in Leicestershire my partner and I chose to go to the Kings Arms as a sunday treat, based on a review we had read in the 2010 good pub guide. We were really looking forward to it after driving an hour to get there, and from the outside all seemed lovely, how wrong we were!! We had booked a table for sunday lunch for 1pm (an hour after food service began) when we walked in we were not greeted by anybody and had to find a waiter to ask about our reserved table. He asked us to go to the bar and get a drink first. Upon doing so we were served by the even colder landlady/manager (we presume as she had no uniform), no hello or even a smile. She did however show lovely manners to a teenage boy in his pyjama bottoms and scrubby trainers?! Once we had got our drinks we were again stood in limbo before having to ask somebody again about our table (3 members of staff had passed and ignored us). We were shown to our table ( if you could call it that) which was in the bar area, we had to move a man out of his chair to fit at the table, and it was in an angled corner so our chairs wouldnt even fit straight on!! (we are not overweight people!) The table was also next to the window which was very cold as it wasnt double glazed. We asked if we could have another table to which the waiter simply said, "no" and walked off. (we could see another 6 tables free). As if it couldnt get any worse, the waitress then came to tell us that they had ran out of some food (typically the food my partner and I had come to the pub for!!). Unfortunately at this point we had had enough and left without finishing our drinks. You would expect that sort of service if you had walked in off the street expecting a table, but not when youve made the effort to reserve a 'table'. Very dissapointed as it showed such promise, but I certainly would not recommend it to anybody

We visited this pub over the bank holiday weekend for an early evening drink. The pub itself came recommended by the local campsite, but to our disappointment the service was discourteous, curt and quite frankly rude. To make matters worse we since discovered that we were served by one of the owners of the pub! The pub is well known for it's good food - but unfortunately the lack of respect we received during our visit would not only discourage me from returning, but I would also strongly advise others not to risk it.

We happened on this fantastic pub on a beautiful sunny lunchtime. When ordering an Aberdeen Angus 'Wing Burger' for lunch, I was asked how I would like it cooking! It's been nearly 30yrs since I was asked this. Only the freshest and best quality beef could be offered this way. I had mine medium rare and when it arrived it was as expected - superb and even the accompanying chips and tomato sauce were homemade. If you are in the area you MUST make a visit to The Kings Arms part of your itinerary if you like real food prepared and cooked as it should be. We'll be back for sure.
