Good Points: Size of room large and commodious. The inn has an interesting history (i.e. ghosts!) Bad Points: We were located over the pub so noise and music was a bit of an issue. We couldn't get the shower to work, the tv was too small for such a large room, the kettle was a bit worn out, the decor of the room was a bit tired (we found two duplicate prints of the same picture next to each other which seemed odd), there were creases in the wallpaper and the bathroom was alot warmer than the bedroom(!) Although the pub food was inexpensive, they didn't offer any large vegatarian salads and the battered fish that my daughter ordered was one of the worst she had ever tasted. General review: Strangely enough, we enjoyed our stay here more than the no-frills standard Travelodge the next day. The place has real character--shame about the food! I think we may have been the only guests that night. The place could use the services of an interior decorator and a decent chef.

Good Points: The gardens around the pub were very pretty, so was the village Bad Points: The food was inedible. General review: The food was inedible. I pointed this out when the waitress noticed that my dinner was almost untouched, but was just offered a drink on the house. I fail to see how this pub won the Publican Pub of the Year award 2007 if the award was for food. The staff were friendly and tried to be helpful but they must be very thick skinned as we were not the only ones complaining about the food in the near empty restaurant. Our neighbours said it was like Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare (he and his family had waited half an hour for their starter). The tap in the bathroom wobbled when turned. The wallpaper in the bedroom (next to the tv) was peeling.

This is one of the very worst places I have ever visited. It is run-down, shabby and smelled of stale cooking. It shows 2 stars on the sign outside but it doesn't deserve any at all. Staff are young and totally disinterested-- no-one even 'checked us in ' when we arrived which I think is illegal for fire regulations. The central heating was totally not working--all controls had been removed from the bathroom radiator and the bedroom radiator would not switch off at all . There was a delivery of something at 5am which woke us up--by leaving engine on--while it unloaded. When I went to check out(and return home ..thankfully) no-one could even find us on the computer so we paid what we had expected £29.80 per person--this was for a double ,en-suite room and so called 'dinner' which was AWFUL as was breakfast.
